Two sure ways to bring life to your dorm?
As a college student living in a dorm or apartment off campus, your living space can get slightly dull. Its a big change from the cozy home your parents built back home and often seems like it needs more life present. Being busy students we are often on the go and don’t have the time for intense care of live objects. So instead of going to your local animal shelter and adopting a dorm cat for that zest of life in your living space, here are two sure ways to gain it.
A Fish
My freshman year I was in dire need of some life and happiness in my small dorm. Many of my friends were going out and adopting cats or mice, and I was feeling like I needed a pet too. I opted for a smaller scale pet and went with a beautiful rainbow fighting fish I named Riff Raff (because his colors matched the hair of the rapper at the time). Fish are extremely easy to care for with a daily meal and bi-weekly bowl cleaning, and despite what some people may say, they have a lot of personality.
On a side note, you can also bring them home with you for breaks if you can’t find a friend to watch them. Most airlines will allow you to bring your little gilled-pal back home as long as you clear it with them ahead of time.
Succulents
Plants provide so much life and happiness, but they often come with a more rigorous upkeep. If you're born with a green thumb then power to you, you can just go ahead and skip this part. Now if you're more like me and can’t keep a plant alive for the life of you (or it) then succulents are a beautiful alternative. Not only are they beautiful and extremely trendy at the moment, but there is also a large variety in the species. And the best part of all is that they only need to be watered every 2-4 weeks and live in a sunny window. I currently have two adorable cacti sitting on my desk, making me happy.
