If you dance, it is natural to live for the week of your stage performance. All the months of practice come down to those few moments on stage. No-one sees the countless hours of work you have put in, or all the failures that accompany the choreography. They don’t recognize the dance on stage is a labor of love for dance. All they see in the two minutes of magic that you perform. Little do they know the fun craziness that goes on behind the scenes. So here is a list of some of the memories that get made.
- The thousands of selfies you take with your friends backstage while changing and running your dances one last time.
- The hype you get while stretching with your dance studio the day of the show. Suddenly those painful stretches don’t seem so bad anymore as you know it will be the last time before the show.
- A number will be re-blocked an hour before the show.
- You will lose all your bobby pins when you seem to need them.
- 30 seconds before you go on stage you will forget everything but muscle memory kicks in and your body moves with the music.
- Reworking your entire schedule around dance the week prior. Seriously nothing is as important as those dance practices.
- You will practice your dances in your head or under the desk in class that week. And you will most likely answer with a dance related response if the professor calls on you.
- You will feel the pure joy of putting on stage makeup with your friends while jamming out to Disney songs.
- You will go to a fast food restaurant (aka McDonald's) after the dress rehearsal. Plus your entire family will take over the tables as you eat fries.
- The rush of anticipation as you feel the stage lights on your face right before the music starts.
- The backstage area becomes hectic as quick costume changes are performed.
- Once the show is over you immediacy miss the tiring dance practices and spending time with your dance family.
