It is no secret that COVID-19 has impacting all of us in many different ways. One way I have noticed across the board is our change in motivation. There have been countless days during quarantine where I would find myself in the same clothes, still with bedhead, and having not seen the outside of my bedroom. Given that we all suddenly had so much free time, we needed to get our motivation levels up to make the most of it. Over the past six months, I have came up with some different ideas of ways to get my motivation up and get myself moving! Maybe some of these could work for you!
1. Let there be light!
Turn on all the lights in your room! WAKE UP TIME!! Time to look alive because if you are going to be the part you need to look the part. I like to open all the blinds in my apartment in the morning so we can let all the natural light inside and brighten up the apartment. I can say it does make you feel more awake and ready for the day. When you are in a gloomy and dark environment, you are going to feel too relaxed to the point of laziness and before you know it, your day is over and you have not done anything.
2. Jam out to your favorite music.
Time for a dance party!! Get your energy up and feet moving by jamming out to all of your favorite tunes! I get in the zone when I am listening to music and I find it helps a lot in getting my mood up. It makes me flashback to pre-covid days with my best friends in our favorite club! Why can't we bring the same energy we do to the Strip on Saturdays to our everyday lives? We should jump into everyday playing our favorite hype song either in our heads or out loud!
3. Take a shower.
One of my favorite things to do in the morning is take a shower. It is known that a shower wakes you up but it really is the truth. I even bring my jam session to the shower and continue that energy! Starting your day off with an amazing, refreshing, and relaxing shower is a feeling that is unmatched. It gets you ready for your day and you can begin putting on new clothes and truly feel like your day is beginning.
4. Drink pre-workout!
Working out is something I like incorporating into my daily schedule. I love the feeling after working out. You bring in all of your negative feelings and thoughts and release every part of them in your workout. You leave it feeling amazing. However, I find that when I am not motivated, drinking my pre-workout really gets me going. It makes my body start to wake up and feel alive. It gets to a point where the want and need to workout consumes you and you are ready to take it on!
5. Set daily goals.
Setting daily goals for yourself (even if they are little goals) makes your motivation to complete them increase. It is almost like making a competition with yourself! "I have to make sure I get off my phone so I can finish ____ so then I can still have time to do _____." Give yourself a daily checklist you go through and accomplish them throughout the day. I use my planner to do this and I set myself up with the basics of my day so I know what I am getting myself into and what I need to get done.
