Have you just finished high school? Do you have any idea of what you're doing next? Are you bored out of your mind? Look no further. As a resident trapped soul, I have firsthand experience in not knowing what the hell I am doing with my life. Here are some tips that I have found especially helpful in getting your life back on track.

1. Admit it: you're stuck.

The first step in getting out of a rut is knowing that you are stuck in the first place. You might find yourself feeling a little down in the dumps or spending a lot of time at your house, accompanied by a feeling of uselessness or boredom. Resolving that you are stuck can inspire motivation for getting out that can be applied to these next few steps.

2. Make some new goals for yourself and WRITE. THEM. DOWN. ON. PAPER.

In this era of digital technology, the value of a pen and a notepad has become utterly underrated. Dust of that yellow manila pad and start writing down everything that you would like to accomplish, not necessarily in this summer alone, but within the next year. Examples include getting a new job, making money, exploring possible majors or certificates, studying abroad, or just cleaning your room. Seeing your goals clearly listed helps to create an organized ladder that you can use to escape your rut.

3. Do your homework.

Ah, the wonders of google. Once you have your goals listed out, use the internet to find practical knowledge to help achieve those goals. If you want to study abroad, then decide where you want to go and explore possible options on how to get there. If you want a new job, look to the Internet for possible postings. For UGA students, in particular, utilizing Handshake through the career center is an excellent way to see what companies are hiring and where. Being knowledgeable about your goals will help you solidify yourself on the path to achieving them.

4. Invest in Yourself, financially and mentally, and here are 4 ways to do so.

  1. Get a new wardrobe and change up your style! Go shopping and try things on that you never imagined yourself wearing and you might find something that speaks to you. If you've wanted highlights or to dye your hair, then book that appointment! It's time to rebrand yourself.
  2. Listen to some new music. You might not even realize that you've been listening to the same music over and over. Spotify creates radios surrounding your favorite artists and songs, so take some time and listen to some new tunes.
You might find a new favorite.
  3. Initiate new experiences with your friends. It's time to take charge and to make plans. YOU. Not anyone else. Go mini golfing, hiking, tubing, or plan a wine night with your gang. Go see a baseball game or plan a party. Plan a weekend to drive somewhere and see a new city. Have a photoshoot! Summer only lasts for a little while, and while you may be itching to get somewhere else, make use of ALL of your time. It's time to make memories!
  4. Find a new passion and dive in. Take an art class or start a book. I don't recommend Netflix, as you can get stuck in a spiral of watching a screen for hours at a time. Finding a new group of people associated with this new passion can help to expand your horizons and make some new friends.

5. Get out of the house.

An active body makes for an active mind. Go on a walk or a run. If you're applying for a job, then go to the business and show face instead of applying online. Physically moving your body to achieve your goals will feel more fulfilling than simply sitting on your bed completing mindless applications.

6. Utilize your network.

While most people won't admit to it, we all have an intrinsic desire to be appreciated for our merit, but sometimes a little nepotism can go a long way. If you know someone who can help you advance you in your goals, then call them and ask to have coffee and talk about what you'd like to accomplish. Taking initiative is the most important part of moving forward.

Feeling like you are doing nothing with a substantial amount of time can be one of the most mind-numbing situations in the world. There is nothing better than having a definitive purpose and obligations to fulfill that purpose. Hopefully, some of these steps can help lead you to a better mental state and quality of life, as they have for me.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
