We all have experienced extremely stressful times while in college. From exams, to homework assignments, to extracurriculars, dating, living on our own, and trying to figure out what we want to do upon graduation, college comes with no lack of stressors. However, it is very important to not let these get to you. Stress can have an immense impact on your mental health, happiness, ability to cope with problems, and day-to-day life, even leading to larger issues. Here are some ways that you can learn to manage and cope with your stress.
Do yoga.
Whether you take a discounted on-campus class or just practice in your dorm room, yoga is a great way to let out all the tension and tightness that tends to build up in your muscles. It is a great way to have some time to get away from technology and reflect on your body's needs and wants.
Drink some tea.
Sometimes after I've had a very long day of school I like to drink a cup of tea, maybe before bed. It helps to calm myself down. Some teas are specifically made for stress and relaxation, while other ones are made for sleepiness.
Take a break.
Watch a show on Netflix, read a book or magazine, or color. It's awesome to take a quick break from whatever is stressing you out to just take your mind off of it.
Write in a journal or a blog.
Writing down what is making you stressed can often be a good release from it. Jot down your thoughts or feelings, and how you can make them better. Part of getting rid of stress is being able to take your focus away from it and not dwell on the bad.
Stay positive and realize that you can get through it.
Whatever is stressing you out, you can get through it eventually. You have probably been through worse and you can do anything! Dwelling on what is making you stressed or upset I have found will only make things worse and will put you in a bad mood. Recognize that you have the power to bring yourself out of bad moods and emotions, no one else does. If someone else is stressing you out or causing you to have a bad day, don't let them! If you need to be upset, allow yourself a few minutes, then pick yourself up and move on! You have life to live and it's not worth living it upset and stressed.
