Finals week is coming up quicker than we think (unfortunately), and we all know how stressful that can be. So, here are some ways to avoid all that, or to decompress after a long day of hitting the books.
Exercise
I know this probably isn’t everyone’s favorite activity, but physical activity releases endorphins which are chemicals that boost your mood. After a long day of sitting at the library or studying at a desk, sometimes even a 10 minute walk can be just what you need!
Eat a snack!
Stress-eating doesn’t always mean going to the dining hall and eating your weight in ice cream and walking tacos. You can take a much needed break and fuel your mind with some brain food, and then jump back into your studies. Or, if you want, chocolate is always a good way to cheer yourself up!
Music
While classical music is particularly helpful in terms of studying, taking a quick breather and listening to some of your favorite songs can be helpful in terms of stress relief.
Be Social
Laughter is the best medicine, as the old cliché says. When you feel like you can’t possibly focus on anything else, sometimes you just need some quality time with your best friends to chill you out.
Sleep
Lack of sleep can be a contributing factor to an increase in stress, but it can seem hard to fit into your busy finals week schedule. Sleep is the most important thing you need to be getting during finals week, so make sure you find time for it!
Make a plan
It can seem like you have thousands of things to do and zero time to do them. Making a to-do list or a schedule can keep you on track and help you manage your time.
Take some much-needed “you time”
Watch some Netflix, read a book, anything! As long as it’s something YOU enjoy doing, it's perfect.
Treat yo self
Have a mini spa day! Do a face mask, light some candles and have a long soak in the tub. Aromatherapy can be a great way to de-stress, so keep that in mind as well!
Stress is just the worst. It’s hard to avoid, but hopefully these tips help you keep it under control as we go into dead week and finals!
