5 Ways To Be More Environmentally Friendly From Your Dorm Room

In This Article:

Trying to be more environmentally friendly can be a little daunting when you don't know where to start. Luckily, I've made a quick and easy list of five simple steps to start with— even if you're on a college campus.

1. Try a reusable water bottle

A super simple way to help out the environment is drinking from reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones. Not having to restock your water supply can cut down on costs, too.

2. Shop with a reusable bag

Grocery shopping with a reusable bag can help limit the need for wasteful plastic bags. Since some states are charging extra for plastic bags now, this can help save you some money, too.

3. Start recycling

If you don't already, start recycling! It's as easy as separating your cardboard from your plastic.

4. Turn the faucet off while washing your face

You don't use the water while washing your face, so why keep the faucet running? Instead, just turn it off while you scrub and then turn it back on to rinse. Same with brushing your teeth!

5. Unplug charging cables when you're not using them

Something I'm definitely guilty of is leaving my phone charger plugged in by my bed during the day. It's as easy as remembering to unplug it when you wake up to help conserve electricity.

Every little thing helps!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
