Since finals are coming up next week everyone is stressed and just ready to get out of school. High school’s finals were hard but since it is my first year in college, I am nervous about what the finals will look like. I am thankful mainly my finals are not tests but projects and art assignments. These are some of my study tips I have used over the past years for finals.

1. Study throughout the year

Ever since I started my first year in high school my parents would always tell me to not wait till the last week to study for finals. I should be studying throughout the year. After every test, I get I check which answers I got wrong and I study them until I get them correct. Every week you should be studying from what you have learned from the last assignment, so when you have to go and study for the final it is more of a review. This will help with not being too stressed and overwhelmed.

2. Flash Cards

Whoever created flash cards are a blessing! Many people have to be able to write the words out to understand them. Flash cards are an easier way to learn a new language or vocabulary.

3. Organization

I am not usually an organized person, my room is always a mess just like my life. When it comes to finals and studying I am the most organized person. I love using the big binders with the many pockets. I usually get a new one every year. In the first pocket, I have a list of my classes and the date and time I have my finals. On another paper, I have a calendar on what days I should study each subject. Each pocket has each of my classes. Then I paper clip my test, then I packer clip another with examples I have worked on.

4. Quizlet

I remember the most information when I am typing so Quizlet is my go to! If you don’t know what Quizlet is, it’s a website where you can create flash cards online, play games while you are learning words, and you can take quizzes. The other best part of Quizlet is you are able to share you flash cards with other people.

5. Taking breaks

Taking breaks is the most important part of studying. Go do something fun or even take a 10-minute nap.

6. Quizzing Others

Working with someone else does not always help everyone, but some people love and think it is very helpful to work with others. For me I prefer to work alone, but when I have a final I rather work with a group just in case I do not understand a question or a problem. Another reason it is good to work with people is because they might have a way to remember a question to a problem.

7, Don't procrastinate!

Again, do not procrastinate! It can lead to more stress!

8. Food

Many people may have seen this idea online, but for me it actually works. When I am reading a chapter I put food or candy at each section to keep me motivated. Food is defiantly one of my biggest motivations. It keeps me going and willing to want to read.

9. Coffee is my best friend

Before high school I was never a big fan of coffee. Now it is my best friend that I love and cherish. Also, another good drink to have is tea. They both will help keep you up to help study during those late nights.

10. Move around

I can’t sit in the same spot for hours at a time. I have to get up and move. One time I was studying for hours because I could never get the right problem. So, I had the paper in my hand got up and started to walk around my room saying over and over again the problems to my test.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
