Large colleges are not for everyone. Some of us like the atmosphere of small colleges. Having three-thousand students makes you so much happier than going somewhere with one-hundred-thousand students. Simply because of the small classes and knowing almost everyone on campus. At a small college you can have a class with 3 other students and the average class only has around twenty-five. This way you have a more personal relationship with your professor. The professors will never even learn the students names in a class of five-hundred students. Having a close knit community makes college even better! Here are some ways to tell you went to a small college.

1. When you walked through the quad around 10 people would say hi to you. Many of the other people you still knew their names, even if you really haven't talked much.

At Muskingum we call this the Muskie hello.

2. You became friends with some of your professors.

You became close to the professors in your major. After numerous classes with them you knew each other pretty well. It isn't uncommon to have your professors cell number.

3. Small classes.

Small classes make it easy for your professors to get to know you, which is a good thing as long as you showed up and did good in class. You also got more one on one attention than anyone in a large school every got.

4. You crossed paths with the same people around 10 times a day.

Which seems creepy, but it's not. You just had similar schedules.

5. Greek life.

Most of your campus was in Greek life and it had a positive view. Those in Greek life also were leaders in numerous other clubs as well. Seems like once someone joins a club, they then join numerous other clubs. They take on numerous leadership roles as well.

6. It took 10 minutes to walk from one side of campus to another.

7. Your college was in a small town.

The nearest city was fifteen minutes away. You liked the small town though.

8. No one had heard of your college unless they were local.

9. There were a ton of clubs to get involved with.

This is one way to know most people on campus. Usually people get involved with numerous clubs and honoraries.

10. You worked on campus.

There were a ton of jobs available on campus for students. Some students even had more than one on campus job.

You choose a small college for all these reasons. You didn't want everything that a large college entails. Small colleges made your college experience even better. Small colleges are not for everyone though. Going to where you feel at home and comfortable, and feeling at home is what made your time at college special.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
