How Your S.O. Can Be A Motivating Presence In Your Life

If you’re anything like me, you’re already driven all on your own… but often times, self-motivated individuals are attracted to those similar to them. In effect, two said individuals being together can result in higher levels of consistent ambition.

“Just own it,” is probably the most common of phrases I hear from my S.O. In fact, it’s something he likes to say in a number of situations to a lot of people, but that little phrase means so much when I hear his voice saying it in my head on a rough day. I’m reminded that no matter what type of situation life throws me into, that I can deal with it my own way. When I own the situation, I can make brilliance out of what may have seemed like nothing.

“You’ve got it Meg, wait for yours!” … the one I like hearing before going up to bat in our weekly softball games. It’s always been about the little things to me, and something as simple as his confidence just makes me want to strive that much more to hit a homerun.

I mean, who wouldn’t feel eager to achieve more when they’re encouraged by the ones they care about? …and sometimes it’s even better when they don’t realize they’re doing it.

There are often times when I’m explaining to him my newest excitement… bullet points of my next article, new design ideas for my future tiny home, or whatever business strategy I came up with that day… and there’s something about the way he watches me as I’m talking or giggling at the speed of my passionately excited voice that makes me realize how much he respects it. Even his involuntary responses keep me interested and content, both with him and my own aspirations.

Above all else, how my S.O. motivates me the most is by working hard, himself. It seems as though all he ever wants is to be reliable, and being a person who’s only ever wanted to rely on myself, that has become a very important quality in him that has changed me in more ways than one. Aside from the positive ways I’ve been affected by his good character, he really is a true inspiration.

I feel as though I can push myself harder because of his encouragement. I continue to feel empowered to go after what I want, and he reminds me of what I know I deserve. It’s actually difficult to think of a day when he hasn’t boosted my confidence, and his ready-to-take-on-life attitude only increases my own energy for tackling something different and challenging.

Having someone like this to provide constant encouragement in life is so essential to personal enhancement. Your increased overall happiness just might spark new desires within you, leading way to an adventurous, meaningful journey ahead.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
