We all have those days where something feels off, but we're not sure why. Gloom sets in and we find ourselves void of much emotion, but kind of sad anyway. This can be due to a medical condition, which I advise you speak to a doctor about, but many times its just part of everyday life. No one is happy all of the time, but when you need to get out of your own head and feel more positive, here are six things I've found to work for me:
1. Clean/organize EVERYTHING
You know what they say, "cluttered life, cluttered mind," and it's true. If your room is a mess chances are, you're not in your best mood. Organizing your drawers is a great way to feel an instant shot of happiness and pride whenever you look for a sweater or your favorite jeans. It's the easiest way to feel a quick sense of pure joy, it also makes your life so much easier.
Organizing your school or work supplies is impactful as well. It eliminates stress and makes you feel more positive about your everyday life and as if you're truly on top of things, rather than a victim of your lack of organization.
2. Do your work
If you have an exam coming up, mail that needs sorting, food that needs to be bought, an email you need to write, or homework that needs to be done...that's going to sit on the back of your mind forever until it's done. If you find yourself in a negative mood, taking care of your responsibilities is a great way to lift your spirits and feel better about your life. Stop procrastinating and get it done!
3. Do your makeup
Studies show that doing your makeup can psychologically improve your mood and ease anxiety and stress. I go more into this in my article, "Researchers Show The Impact That Makeup Has Psychologically"
4. Watch a funny TV Show
Lately, whenever I'm feeling down, I've been turning to the '90s sitcom "Friends" and have found that watching funny shows have really taken my mind off things, and made me feel better. Binge watching "The Office," "Gilmore Girls," or other shows have proven to be a great way for me to feel lighter and more positive.
5. Send a loving, motivational message to someone you love
Whether you send a super long text to your best friend to tell them how much you believe in them, or your significant, or family members. Sending positivity to someone else's life reminds you of the love you have in yours and does the same for them.
6. Excercise and eat well
There are no doubts that eating a delicious but healthy meal and doing a workout you love can boost your mindset and your metabolism. Whether you workout every day or you haven't exercised in years, providing health for your body can never do you harm as long as you stay within your doctor-recommended means. Eating healthy and exercising both have proven to be beneficial in boosting your mood and clearing your head when you can't shake the fogginess.
The ideas I listed are ideal ways to help you feel better when you don't have a particular problem or underlying issue. Even when you do, however, these methods of dealing with sadness can only help to improve your day and I hope you find them as helpful as they've been to me!
