You might not believe that you alone can make a difference. However, if you create eco-friendly habits, and maybe encourage your friends and family to do the same, you can create a positive impact while barely lifting a finger. Here are five easy ways you can live a little greener.
1. Shut off the tap.
Okay, we all knew this one, but do you practice what you preach? Turn off your water whenever you're not using it during brushing your teeth, washing your face, or doing the dishes.
Also, consider reducing the number of baths you take in favor of showers. Let's be honest, baths are a little gross anyway.
2. Turn off and unplug.
I get it. It's nice to have the television on for some background noise, but habits like these are adding onto your electric bill for no good reason. Whenever you leave a room, turn off the lights and other electric devices.
You might not have known that leaving your charger or hairdryer in the outlet, even if it's turned off, still uses electricity! Unplug whatever you can in order to do the environment and your electric bill a favor!
3. Buy that reusable water bottle.
It's time. Those disposable plastic water bottles are a menace to wildlife as well as the ozone, not to mention the scary chemicals that could be seeping into your water.
I don't know about you, but I love stickers and my laptop is already covered. So.
4. Bring your own bag.
Plastic bags have long since been the enemy of Earth lovers and just think of all the innocent turtles, birds, and fish that will choke on this superfluous habit. When going shopping, bring your own tote bag.
It will also be sturdier, so your groceries aren't going to break through the cheap plastic and crash into the pavement the moment you leave the store. Plus, if you're only buying one small item, what do you need a bag for?
5. Live smarter.
There are plenty of ways to reduce your waste production when you go out. At a restaurant, ask for no straw and just drink your beverage out of the cup.
If you're getting take-out, ditch the plastic cutlery and use your own silverware. If given an option, get receipts for purchases emailed to you rather than printed.
There are a thousand and one ways to help your community be a little greener; all you have to do is pay attention.
