You Should Be Spending More Time Alone

Why being alone can actually be a good thing.

There's no doubt that socialization is great. Making friends and hanging out with them is a bonding experience that shouldn't be taken for granted. But sometimes you just need a break. Being around people can be too much to handle and the best way to recharge your brain and personal energy is by stepping back and spending some time by your lonesome. And if anyone gives you trouble for being "anti-social" give them this list of reasons why being alone can be beneficial:

You Get to Relax

Being alone means quiet. Quiet means peace. Being alone can be a great time to catch up on sleep or just think about things. If you’re in the right “zone”, it can be a moment to stabilize your energy and take a breather.

You Can Reflect

Being able to be in your own space can give you a chance to think back on your day or week. Taking a moment to look at what you’ve done and how you reacted to things can be a great way to make some necessary changes for the near future. Also, it can be really entertaining to replay embarrassing or cool things that happened throughout your day.

Learning to Enjoy Being by Yourself

It’s important to be comfortable enough with yourself that you can be alone. Being able to entertain yourself with your own thoughts will make life 10x more interesting. You’re probably not going to be around people 24/7 for the rest of your life, it’ll make it much easier if you’re comfortable doing things alone. Enjoy your own company!

You Can Get Things Done

This time doesn’t have to be all about relaxing; you can also get some stuff taken care of. I always focus better when I’m alone, so you can use this time to get homework done, read a good book, or learn something new. You’ve got no distractions and all the time in the world to get whatever you need to do done.

You Can Take a Break from Being Around People

People can be a lot. Being around people too often can lead to anxiety and stress and annoyance. Some people just can’t be around others for too long, I’m one of these people; so a little distance is necessary sometimes. It’s totally normal to want to take a couple hours or a day or more to yourself. It can be taxing to have to put on a face or force interactions day in and day out, alone time can give you that space and time you need so you can get yourself together and prepare for when you actually do have to talk to someone.

Time to Recharge

Take this time to calm your body and mind! Meditate or watch your favorite show, anything! This is your time to do as you please, relax your body, spirit, and mind. If you’re having a stressful day, sometimes the best thing to do is take time for yourself and do something calming that you like without having to answer to other people. Give your brain a break from forced conversation and friendliness and activities that you just don’t want anything to do with. This time is for you. Take it!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
