3 ways to stay motivated

From me to you.

3 ways to stay motivated
Alyssa B.

I have a difficult time staying motivated. I start things and I give up. I'll start other things and complete those before I finish what I have to complete. One of my worst fears in life is that I will blink and I will not have done anything that I wanted to do. Motivation is something I am working on in my life. Being motivated is hard. But without motivation nothing will get done. Here's three ways to stay motivated.

  1. Take small steps. If you're working on a big project that's due soon, instead of trying to do it all, work on it a little bit at a time. Taking big steps are good, but sometimes small steps are what you need. We often lose motivation because it's not important, we're overwhelmed and we're tired. Taking little steps helps, because little steps eventually turn into big steps. I am working on overcoming a setback, I stopped because I was afraid and I got discouraged so I started over again and I’m just taking little steps.
  2. Don't procrastinate. Procrastination is a great way to motivate yourself! 😉however it's not beneficial. A wise person once said "Procrastination is the arrogance that God owes you another day to do the thing in front of you." While you may not believe in God, it's still true. Because we're not promised tomorrow, yet we think we are and we take it for granted. Don't put off till Tomorrow what was meant to be done today! I am a huge procrastinator, I put off dealing with my setback by making excuses and justifying my actions. Procrastination is a tricky one, it disguises itself in a way that makes us think we’re doing alright.
  3. Remember that something is better than nothing. For example if you want to exercise everyday and you do something once but don't do it again, so you get discouraged and give up you won't make progress. Some type of exercise is better than no exercise. Do something. This is my motto in life now. This is how I am going to beat my setback. I am an all or nothing person so when I didn’t make progress I just stopped instead of doing something. Because all somethings are going to lead me to overcoming that setback, Because eventually all those somethings and all those small steps will lead way to giant leaps.

I know staying motivated is difficult, I know we like to procrastinate! It is in our nature to put off that in which we hate, but you were made for more than this. You were made for bigger and better things. The world will change yes, but think of how it will change if you were the one to change it? You cannot ignite change unless you are motivated to change. In the end, motivation is a tool that Must be sharpened by grace and kept in dedication. We can change the world, we can change ourselves, we just have to keep going.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
