Music has forever been a huge part of people's lives, from the rock 'n' roll music lovers at the Woodstock music festival back in ‘69, to the rap and EDM fanatics of the always-popular Coachella. Whether it's jamming out to the Grateful Dead in your friend's basement or slapping to Skrillex, music has always been a social element that brings people together. We have Instagram to share photos and Twitter to share thoughts, but now there's Wav, the world's first social media site to share music.
Wav is targeted at college students with a passion for both listening to and discussing music. The app allows its user to listen to their favorite Spotify and SoundCloud music in one place and even create single playlists using songs from both music platforms. Users can share songs with their friends by posting to their profile with blurbs on why they are listening to certain songs. These blurbs will end up in a news feed (similar to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) where friends and followers can interact by commenting, liking and re-sharing posts they like. The “Journey” feature will also giver users the ability to see what music is trending at cities across the world.
The idea for Wav started back in October 2015, when founder Jenner Chapman was sharing some of his own music with friends. One of his friends dropped the idea for a social media platform for sharing music with friends. And while most of Jenner’s friends laughed this off, Jenner took the idea to heart and ran with it. He spent the rest of that night with coffee in hand, creating rough drafts of the visions he had for this new app. Just a day later he got his parents on the phone, told them he was dropping out of college, and took out a loan to make his dream a reality.
To spread the word, Wav hired brand ambassadors at colleges across the West coast. This includes students at Loyola Marymount, University of Arizona, UC Irvine, University of Southern California, University of San Diego, San Diego State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They say college kids are the most in-tuned with music and are best at pointing out the hottest up-and-coming music creators. These students are working to make Wav the talk of the campus, to get all their friends and all their music in one place.
After a month of launch preparation, with a team of more than 15 skilled young adults, the app is finally here. Hundreds have already joined the movement. Jump into Wav yourself, by downloading the app here.
Make music the conversation.
