A Saturday night with friends, a bonfire, and good times. Or maybe even a Friday night football game with the high school band performing halftime and drinking some hot cocoa. All these and more are included in the little towns across America, our famous water-tower towns.
Growing up in a small town in Northern Michigan, I'm used to the small town way. Everyone knows everyone and everyone's business, parties on Friday and Saturday, and seeing your friends or school mates end up in the paper. You see your teachers and principal in the local stores and if you try to date anyone, who knows what your going to hear.
When your watching a movie or a TV show, and you see a small town, it looks pretty and it seems that there are absolutely no problems in that town. This anything but the truth. In my town, when you look down main street, you can almost shoot a cannon ball down it without hitting anything. Although it looks pretty in the summer time with the flowers, our town is starting to become a ghost town, like many others in the country. Thanks to not having enough jobs in our little town, everyone is leaving to go find jobs.
However, things aren't so bad in town. We take care of one another and we make sure that no one goes without. You can find friends living with each other, friends and family carpooling to work or to school, or even neighbors working together.
When you've lived in a small town your whole life, you may start to think that it sucks and you can't wait to move to a big city and see the world. Just remember, no matter how far away you go, there's no place like home.
