The Summer Olympics are kicking off this Friday and I can't wait! There have been many opinions circling these Olympics. This is the first time a South American country has hosted the Olympics ever! With this arose several issues such as the government's instability, sanitation, and of course the infamous Zika virus. Despite all of this, the Olympics are still worth tuning in to. The purpose of The Olympics is to promote unity across the world through a mutual interest. The Olympics are always worth watching, but here are few special reasons to watch it:

1. World- wide unity.

People from all over the world join in watching their athletes compete. There is just a special feeling joining millions of people over a common interest. The Olympics promote peace and brings people from all over the world to Rio to celebrate these incredible events that are going to unfold in the following days.

2. Learning about the other countries:

There are 206 countries competing in the Rio Olympics this year. During the opening ceremony all the countries are able to enter carrying the flag representing their home. Watching the Olympics on TV, information about each country flashes across the bottom of the screen as the country enters the arena. This gives us insight into each country, and some that we may never have even heard of.

3. The athletes.

The best athletes in the world are competing. They dedicate their entire lives for this and their ability is just awe inspiring.

4. Inspiring.

Speaking of the athletes, we can be inspired to be more active watching this. The athletes dedicate their lives, we can dedicate some time to work out.

5. The gymnasts.

The USA gymnastics team is expected to be exceptional this year. Simone Biles is said to be "the top gymnast in history" according to Mary Lou Retton. She is definitely someone to watch during the Olympics, we may just see this woman go from gymnast to legend.

6. Michael Phelps:

Michael Phelps has gone down in history as the Best Olympian of all time. He has won 22 medals in 3 Olympic Games. He is an incredible competitor, but he is quoted saying that these are "my potential last Olympics." He carried the USA flag in the ceremony, a sober moment for this athlete as it may be his last Olympics.

7. Binge watch TV.

The Olympics give you the perfect reason to binge watch TV. You can't miss a moment of history in the making.

8. The atmosphere.

Rio is known for partying. Celebrations are everywhere.

9. The opening ceremony.

Rio has admitted to not having the budget of the countries who hosted the Olympics before them. Despite that, Rio's opening ceremony will be just as special. There is a part of the ceremony that is a Samba which is said to make everyone want to get up and dance. The money may not be the same, but the Energy Rio has will beat any Olympic Games before.

10. PatriotismCheering on your country and having a sense of National Pride watching your country take home gold. USA USA USA!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
