WELCOOOOOOOME! The Christmas season is quickly coming to an end, which means this is the last opportunity to watch Christmas movies and it is socially acceptable.
Enjoy!
1. "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" (Cartoon only, obviously)
I am a firm believer that the better version of this movie is the cartoon. Nothing against Jim's grinch, but it's just a bit much. The cartoon is a cute, short, and sweet way to get into the holiday spirit. The songs are all so catchy, and it's good to be reminded every once in a while that Christmas isn't just about presents and decorations.
2. "Home Alone"
The antics of an 8-year-old Kevin after being left alone is actually one of my favorite things. The nice thing about this movie is the fact that it's not technically a Christmas movie, so you can enjoy it year round. While it may be geared towards kids, it's still enjoyable to watch some bad guys get beat in the face with a paint can and set on fire with a blow torch. 10/10, I will always recommend.
3. "The Holiday"
Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black are an award-winning quartet. These four circa 2006 will lead you through a funny and shocking holiday adventure with plenty of heart-warming and heart-wrenching surprises. It's not as cliche as many other holiday romances, but it's good for either a girls night in or date night. (Additional pos: LOOK AT JUDE'S DIMPLES)
4. "Miracle on 34th Street"
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit biased when it comes to loving this movie. After playing Susan in the stage adaptation, I fell in love with the story of not only this girl discovering the magic of Christmas, but her mother and many others. This movie has stood the test of time, and it's easy to see why. Whether you like holiday movies or not, this is a movie that should be on any cinephile's list.
5. A Charlie Brown Christmas
All you miserable, cartoon-hating, grinches cannot possibly tell me you don't like this movie. Arguably the best of the Charlie Brown movies, this family movie teaches so many lessons it's hard to find one to focus on. Linus and Charlie Brown remind us why we celebrate Christmas in the first place, all while Snoopy faces his foe, the Red Baron. Please, oh please, sit down for a half hour and enjoy... the true meaning of Christmas.
Honorable Mentions:
"A Muppets' Christmas Carol"
"A Christmas Belle"
Frosty the Snowman
"A Christmas Kiss"
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Take my suggestions with a grain of salt, but, HEY, it's time to be festive!!
