Some of the best and most successful films created are independent ones. These films don't get the same amount of hype or publicity because they aren't blockbusters or produced by major production companies. As I've gotten older I've found that a majority of my favorite films that are new releases are indie flicks. There is just something about them that makes them so different. Everything about them, the way they're filmed, the music, the boundary-breaking plots, the actors, and so much more, makes these films special. Here are 15 independent flicks you should check out!

1. The Grand Budapest Hotel

This is hands down one of my favorite movies ever! Wes Anderson makes movies with such detail that it's impossible not to love them!

2. To the Bone

I wasn't sure about this movie at first but decided to give it a shot and have found it to be a really great one. Lily Collins does a fantastic job displaying someone with an eating disorder and her journey working through it.

3. The Fantastic Mr. Fox

Another great Wes Anderson film, "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" is a fun one for all ages and will keep you entertained the whole way through.

4. Mr. Roosevelt

This is one of those oddball films that turned out to be pretty funny and entertaining! "Mr. Roosevelt" is a film that those who have had awkward encounters with their exes will definitely understand.

5. Other People

"Other People" will make you cry out of sadness but you'll laugh at the awkward parts as well. The cast is great though!

6. Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson at it again with this film about two kids! It's odd but his attention to detail wins you over in this fantastic film.

7. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

"Three Billboards" is a new movie that you'll love! Frances McDormand will amaze you and make you feel the pain she feels.

8. Call Me By Your Name

I can't say enough about "Call Me By Your Name." It's a heartbreaking and beautiful story of coming of age and love.

9. I, Tonya

The story of Tonya Harding is complicated and confusing but Margot Robbie does a fabulous job of portraying her and her story of skating.

10. Lady Bird

"Lady Bird" is a film that tells the story of the odd girl who is misunderstood by everyone around her. Director and writer Greta Gerwig has created a great movie that will captivate many!

11. The Royal Tenenbaums

Wes Anderson created this odd movie with his calling card of details. "The Royal Tenenbaums" portrays a family of wonder kids all with incredible talents with an all-star cast!

12. Captain Fantastic

"Captian Fantastic" is a sad but very entertaining film of an extremely different family. This family and their uniqueness will capture any viewer!

13. The Meyerowitz Stories

"The Meyerowitz Stories" will show you the dysfunction of a very distinguished, talented, and odd family!

14. Little Sister

"Little Sister" took me a while to get into but it turned out to be pretty good! A goth kid turned nun tries to reconnect with her family she hasn't seen in quite some time.

15. The Big Sick

Kumail Nanjiani's true story of he and his wife will have you laughing! It's the perfect rom-com for a night in!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
