If you are looking for a romance film to watch in October, I recommend Jerry Zucker's 1990 film, "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Tony Goldwyn.
It has been 28 years ago that this film, "Ghost" has been released, which has bought romance to a whole new level towards the supernatural. This film depicts Sam (portrayed by Patrick Swayze) who is enjoying his life with his lover, Molly (portrayed by Demi Moore) but then suddenly, he gets killed and becomes a ghost. Finding out what has happened to him, Sam later discovers his friend, Carl (portrayed by Tony Goldwyn) is behind his murder and tries to warn Molly, with the aid of the shaman, Oda Mae (portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg).
Before actually watching the film this year, I've only remembered the final scenes of the film because my mother loves the film and I would just gaze at the TV when I was younger.
Now after I have watched the film this year, I love it! This is a little different from the romance films that I ever watched, especially from my first look at the film's title. I thought that the film belonged to the genre of horror according to the title, "Ghost," but it is more suspenseful than scary. Not only the suspenseful thrills, but it is also the love that is depicted in the film that motivates me to continue watching. It touched my heart and made me cry.
The actors and actresses are very impressive in their roles, especially Whoopi Goldberg with her comedic lines and sassiness in the film, which have earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The character, Molly, bought out the best of Demi Moore's talent for acting. In addition, Demi Moore stands out to be very elegant and beautiful at that time because of her short hair and love that she holds on to because of her strong, likable character, Molly. She also gains more recognition in fame. As for Patrick Swayze, his heartthrob image continues since his role as a handsome dancing instructor in the 1987 film directed by Emilio Ardolino, "Dirty Dancing." Lastly, Tony Goldwyn, his acting is also remarkable as the antagonist, especially when his character, Carl becomes frightened and stresses out when his plan gets ruined. He really has captured the expression of distress when Carl finds out that he is being haunted by Sam.
Besides the gifts of the actors and actresses, the souvenir of this film is the classic love song, "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers. This slow song describes all the aspects of Sam and Molly's love towards each other especially when they feel that they are out of reach from each other. The lyrics bring out a strong sentiment between the two lovers, and become very prominent, especially when it plays in the film, your heart will just melt. I love hearing this song and Leann Rimes' cover of this song with my mother and sisters ever since then.
Despite the fact that this film is not so new, this film can still give the goosebumps and ecstasies to your body and heart whenever you watch it. I totally recommend that you should watch this film this October!
