Why You Need to Watch The CW's 'Riverdale'

This isn't anything like the comics your parents used to read.

With only three episodes so far, 'Riverdale' will soon be capturing audiences everywhere. If you were anything like me as a kid, Archie Comics were your childhood. I fell in love with characters like Archie and Jughead, was fascinated by Betty and Veronica's friendship, and even loved Cheryl Blossom's character (in the show, not so much). Based on the characters of Archie Comics, the story follows a group of high schoolers in the small town of Riverdale. Everything in Riverdale seems "peachy keen", until the Fourth of July when Cheryl Blossom and her brother, Jason, go on a canoe ride at Sweetwater River. In short, the scene quickly shifts to Cheryl sitting cold, wet, and lonely discovered by a troop of boy scouts as she made out of the canoeing accident safely, but Jason didn't. As dark truths and hidden secrets begin to unfold in this "picture perfect" town, viewers see that Riverdale is nothing like how the comics painted it out to be, but is instead filled with drama, scandal, and discovering what really happened with the unsolved murder of all-star football player, Jason Blossom. Created by the creators of 'Vampire Diaries' and 'Gossip Girl', there is no doubt that this show is definitely one to watch!

1. KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, enough said.

Say hello to Hollywood's newest heartthrob! At only 19, KJ Apa is about to win over hearts everywhere. Of course, in traditional 'Gossip Girl' and 'Vampire Diaries' fashion, the creators of the show had to add a twist to the their most beloved character. Sort of like the Nate Archibald of the show, Archie has the beautiful, Veronica Lodge, and super cute best friend, Betty Cooper, competing for his attention. Though the girls seem to work pass their issues of fighting over a boy, just like Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, we can't help but think this isn't the end of this love triangle. What makes Archie's character even more intriguing to viewers is his scandalous relationship with his music teacher, Ms. Grundy. With only three episodes, I'm sure we'll see Archie's character develop more and find out what exactly made him part of a murder investigation.

2. Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen Were so 2007.

Move aside Blair and Serena, there's some new BFFs for us to idolize. After seeing these on screen best friends, you'll be wishing you and your BFF were Betty and Veronica. Similar to Blair, Veronica Lodge is the elite, rich girl from New York that moves to Riverdale with her Mother, Hermione Lodge. Hoping to leave her "ice princess" antics back in New York, the trait that we loved most from Blair Waldorf's character, Veronica hopes to start fresh and work her way to become a better person. What better way to accomplish this then be-friending everyone's most loved girl in town. Betty Cooper, the cute, girl next door, is everything we want to be, just like how Serena van der Woodsen was everyone's favorite in the Upper East Side. Brains, beauty, and the nicest character of all, Betty is everything we aspire to be, but we see that her life isn't as put together as she likes to portray it as. Together, this dynamic duo is unstoppable. Talk about #goals.

3. Cole Sprouse as the moody, heart-crooning Jughead.

Similar to Dan Humphrey, Jughead gives off those mysterious, angsty blogger vibes. He's definitely the cute guy we expect to be seated at a Starbucks writing about the everyday flaws he sees in the world. Instead, Jughead sits at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe and is writing the story of what happened to Jason Blossom on the Fourth of July. From looking at Jughead's character in relation to the other characters, viewers see that he doesn't necessarily fit in with the rest of Riverdale's "finest". He's got the whole "on the outside, looking in" complex to him, but it's what makes his character one of the best aspects of the show.

4. Cheryl Blossom as Riverdale's bombshell ice queen.

Georgina Sparks, who were you again? That's right, there's a new ice queen in town and her name is Cheryl Blossom. Vindictive and cold-hearted, Cheryl Blossom's character is everything that makes her the perfect "villain" to the show. Cheryl has a close relationship with her brother, Jason. She believes that Jason would never do anything to harm anyone and that he's a good person. As the show progresses, however, Cheryl learns that maybe her brother wasn't all as good as she thought he was, making his murder and who Jason really was even more mysterious.

5. After just one episode, you're hooked.

It's not a CW show without the element of drama being the most important in capturing the viewer's eye. Like 'Gossip Girl' and 'Vampire Diaries', this show has multiple little twists and turns that only make the plot thicken, leaving fans wanting to find out what happens next. From the mysterious murder of Jason Blossom to the scandalous relationship between Archie and his high school music teacher, Ms. Grundy, to the shady acts of Betty Cooper's mother and her mysterious sister, Polly Cooper, there is so much going on in this small town that who wouldn't want to see what turn of events will happen next in Riverdale.

Riverdale airs every Thursday night at 9 pm on The CW!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
