I have to admit, I am one of the biggest kids you will ever get to know. Although many of you see me handling my business with the various activities I’m in or with school, tuning in to my favorite cartoon shows is something I have not let go of. I have watched cartoons all my life and plan to keep watching them even when I’m 80 years old. I have watched a variety of cartoons from old to new, silly to serious, and from usual to unusual. The cartoons I usually watch now a days are usually on both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The ONLY time I watch Disney Chanel is if "Phineas and Ferb" is on.

When I was younger I watched all sorts of things, I really didn’t discriminate. But as I got older, I prefer cartoons that have a story line such as Steven Universe. The only exception I will make for other cartoons is if it is Spongebob (which happens to be my favorite show), Scooby Doo, or Family Guy. But there are reasons why I still watch cartoons, and maybe my reasons may convince you I’m not as crazy as you think I am.

1. It calms my nerves.
There’s nothing like a TV show that helps you relax from a long stressful day. I feel as though cartoons helps me cope with my long days.

2. Cartoons are where I started my TV journey
We’ve all had our share of cartoons growing up, and many of us usually complain about the TV shows that airs today. I remain faithful to my cartoon watching.

3. They can be funny and amusing
A lot of the older cartoons, such as "Rugrats," are hilarious to watch now that I’m older and understand certain concepts. Also some of the newer cartoons for adults can be amusing such as "Family Guy."

4. Most of them have hidden subliminal messages
Okay, now I know you’ve seen certain cartoons and saw the hidden message behind what they were saying. You know those messages you wouldn’t have caught as a kid, and now you can laugh at because you understand.

5. A separation from reality
Majority of the things shown on cartoons, real life actors or actresses can’t do.

6. Imagination
It allows you to think outside the box.

7. They will always exist
Whether you like cartoons or not, they will always be around. There are always children somewhere needing something watch.

8. Some may take you back to your childhood
Watching some of the older cartoons as an adult can bring back great memories from when you were a child.

9. There are cartoons that have an actual storyline
Some cartoons actually have a storyline line that some kids don’t understand. Steven Universe is a good example of a cartoon that has a storyline you can’t miss.

10. They can be empowering
There are cartoons that can be empowering and have a positive message to send out. There are also certain superhero cartoons that can be seen as empowering.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
