As everyone probably already knows by now, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life aired on November 25th, Black Friday. We all exhaled a collective 'What the ****?!' after the last four words were said, but now it's time to move on. I know, I know it'll be hard pulling yourself out of your Gilmore hangover. That's why I have some suggestions to help ease you into a new show that will inevitably send you into a crying, screaming rage like all good television shows do.

1. Penny Dreadful

It's nothing at all like Gilmore Girls, but if you need something different to shock you out of your funk, this is it. Combine an American gunslinger, a medium, and an explorer (along with some famous fictional characters - Victor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray) all in Victorian London as they fight supernatural forces, and you've got one heck of a show. It's not for the faint of heart, though. So check your stomach at the door before entering this world.

2. Last Man Standing

If you're a fan of Time Allen (and really, who isn't?), you need to watch this. It's incredibly funny, but if you get offended easily, stay away. It's not politically correct by any means so either develop a thick skin or get out. The plot: Mike (Tim Allen) is a married father of three daughters who each have personalities large enough to rival his own. He is the marketing director for 'Outdoor Man,' a sporting goods store. As part of his job, he posts videos to the company's site that contain his opinions and advice while also promoting the business.

3. Zoo

If you want to foray into a slightly sci-fi world, do it here. No, it's not about a physical zoo you can visit. It's basically like the animal version of the zombie apocalypse. Animals across the world start turning violent and attacking humans. A team of people (including a zoologist and a journalist) find their way together and try to figure out the cause and a cure. Inevitably, they run into a million obstacles, and like anything sci-fi there are enough twists and turns to make your head spin.

4. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter strikes again. If you don't know who that is, shame on you. Think Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and her brief but adorably quirky role as Lucy in season 7 of Gilmore Girls. Jessica Jones is based on the Marvel comic character of the same name. Netflix's synopsis: "She's a gifted PI hiding a past that's left her broken but still fighting. Revenge may be sweet, but she isn't." It's a pretty dark show, also not for the faint of heart.

I could list dozens more (and movies...don't even get me started), and one day I might. But for now, start with these. Indulge. Binge. Let yourself be swept away in these different worlds and temporarily forget about those infuriating LAST FOUR WORDS.

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
