Our nation's capital is one of the most prominent cities in America. It is the center of all political and historic activity in the country. They say that you can't see everything in D.C. in one visit, but we sure can try. Washington has a lot to offer and these destinations are bucket-list material.

1. The United States Capitol Building 

The United States Capitol Building is one of the first things people envision when Washington D.C. is mentioned. The domed building houses the two chambers of our nation's legislative branch, The House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

2. The White House 

The White House is home and office to the President of the United States. The landmark building is large part of history and politics in this country.

3. The Lincoln Memorial 

The Lincoln Memorial is a great tribute to our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. His statue lies in the center of the memorial. Two of his most famous speeches, The Gettysburg Address and his second Inaugural Address are engraved on the two sides walls of the memorial. Also located at the top of the steps, there is a labeling of the exact spot where Martin Luther Kings gave his famous "I Have A Dream Speech."

4. The Washington Monument 

The Washington Monument is one of the signature landmarks of the nation's capital. The obelisk stands at the National Mall and honors our first president, George Washington.

The Jefferson Memorial 

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial stands at the edge of the tidal basin. Our third president is immortalized in this memorial.

6. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial 

The FDR Memorial has so many unique features to appreciate about the former president. There's waterfalls, sculptures, statues of Roosevelt, and his wife, Elanor, and quotes from the president.

7. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial 

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial honors the heroic civil rights leader. One could ponder for hours just how much he meant to millions of Americans during is life and mission when they visit the monument.

The Nationals Air and Space Museum is an absolute must-see when in D.C. The museum documents air and space exploration and will truly take your breath away. The displays and exhibits are some of the most extravagant in the country.

9. The National Museum of American History 

The National Museum of American History is one that everyone must visit when in Washington. Each exhibit is a great sentiment to American history. There truly is something for everyone at this great museum.

10. The Holocaust Memorial Museum 

The Holocaust Memorial Museum offers educational programs and exhibits. Preserving the memory of the Holocaust is an important part of our civic duty. We owe it to history to make sure that the history if the Holocaust is never forgotten.

11. Arlington National Cemetery 

The Arlington National Cemetery will humble any American who loves their country. It features JFK's eternal flame, Robert E. Lee's house, the Memorial Amphitheater, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The most fascinating experience at Arlington however is the Changing of the Guard. You will leave the area speechless.

12. The Vietnam Wall

The Vietnam Wall features over 58,000 names of dead and missing soldiers. The wall helps us remember the Vietnam War and those who sacrificed during a tumultuous time in our history

13. The Korean War Veterans Memorial 

Also known as the "Forgotten War," the Korean War is a time in American history that flies under the radar. The Korean War Veterans Memorial ensures that that piece of history deserves to be remembered, not forgotten.

14. The World War II Memorial 

The World War II Memorial is a great reminder of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during a time when the world was tearing itself apart once again. The outdoor memorial honors the 16 million Americans who served during the second World War. It certainly will be the highlight of your visit.

15. The Pentagon 9/11 memorial 

The Pentagon 9/11 Memorial dedicates the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. It is one of the most humbling experiences an American can see when in Washington. It has only been 17 years since the 9/11 attacks. We must never forget what happened. The Pentagon Memorial accomplishes this and more.

The Tidal Basin offers a great view of the Jefferson Memorial as well as the cherry blossom trees that make the scenery come alive during the right time of year.

17. Mount Vernon 

While Mount Vernon is not in Washington D.C. it is till worth visiting when in the area. The home of George Washington is something any history buff can enjoy. They offer tours of the land and house.

18. Ford's Theatre 

Ford's Theatre has a unique place in American history. It is the site of President Lincoln's assassination. The theatre offers historic exhibits and tours.

19. The Supreme Court of the United States 

The highest court in the land has special feeling of prestige and honor. It is the site of dozens of hallmark court cases that have changed the course of history.

20. The National Archives Building 

The National Archives Building houses some of the most historic and iconic pieces of writing in the history of the world. It is the home of the founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. It will fill you with great pride as you see the original documents that laid the foundation of the United States.

The number of things to see and do in Washington D.C. could fill an entire bucket list. It's a city every American should enjoy and visit at least once in their lifetime. Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
