It's holiday season - you're bustling between three Christmas dinners, hauling your gifts home, and planning for that New Years party right around the corner. It's a hectic time, to say the least. Everybody is running around like chickens who've lost their heads. Traffic in the streets is a nightmare, and the kitchen congestion around the turkey is only worse.

Even with all the chaos about you, peace and tranquility can be found by washing your bowl.

Yup, that's all there is to it; washing your bowl.

The time it takes to scrub the leftover crumbs from the surface, rinse, and dry your dish pales in comparison to the amount of time spent gazing at the wall wondering what could be a better use of your time. A couple of minutes gives you the opportunity to complete the act of eating by returning the dish you used to its former glory. Washing your bowl after a meal is akin to closing a well-read book after you finish the final page.

This practice offers peace of mind by handling the loose ends of cleaning the dish later which usually means mindlessly rinsing and placing it in the dishwasher.

This idea is an ancient zen practice that focuses on the mundane, ordinary tasks that are central to reaching your extraordinary dreams. Mindfulness at the most minute level transforms itself into a strength at more complex levels.

Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
