As many classic rock and heavy metal fans know Motley Crue had taken the legs of their famous "Final Tour" throughout the years of 2014 and 2015. This tour was supposedly the last of their long, luxurious, and notorious (at the time) thirty-three years of being together as a musical group. At the start of the year 2014, the members of Motley Crue had announced their destined departure saying, “…we want to go out with a bang and be remembered.” Nikki Sixx, the bassist of Motley Crue, had made it clear to many fans and bystanders that this was, in fact, a goodbye. To some, though, it was just simply a see you soon. Many believed and still have hope Motley Crue will return in the future for a reunion concert or perhaps even a reunion tour. Although, some members of the band say they do not want to be like other rock and roll groups (KISS) who just tour and tour and never end after they clarify doing so. How did it get to this, for many, unfortunate point?
Motley Crue started out on the Sunset Strip of the all too famous Hollywood, California. After becoming an official band on January 17, 1981, Motley Crue set out with determination to become the biggest and baddest band of the decade. The results? They reached their goal and conquered their dreams. With many gruesome bumps in the road, especially with the bassist Nikki Sixx and his Heroin addiction along with the drunk driving and manslaughter caused by Vince Neil, the four members of the band had conquered not only America but the world. They had taken the music industry by storm, not caring what people thought of their bad boy persona. That is what simply made them the best bad boy band around. Some would compare them to the Rolling Stones or even the Sex Pistols in their attitude. Though the attitude can cause problems and we found this out in the early 1990’s when lead singer, Vince Neil, left the band only to return later on in the 2000’s once the band was done feuding.
In retrospect, Motley Crue has had the entire globe at their fingertips for a long and adventurous thirty-three years of their career and saying goodbye just a few days shy of their thirty-fourth birthday. They did not throw their career away, but just simply hung up their coats to take a well-deserved rest and to pursue what they have always wanted to do in their spare time. Whether that be starting their own band, as Nikki Sixx has done with James Michael and DJ Ashba of Sixx: A.M., or even just spending time with their families. Many Crue Heads, the die hard Motley Crue fans, were heartbroken at first hearing of the news, but have now come to accept it just as I have after taking the time to let it sink in. Motley Crue will forever live and rock on in our hearts and they have definitely left their mark carved in on the planet.
One question is still left unanswered to many even though it has been answered by the band's founder and bassist, Nikki Sixx. Is this truly the end of Motley Crue or is it just a cover up for the surprise that is to come? We will never really know for sure, will we? A band that was this successful and amazing cannot just simply say goodbye forever and hang up the guitar straps while throwing the microphone to the ground. Right?
"I mean, we'd rather just break up than be bland." - Nikki Sixx
