Saturday February 25th marks the day of Winona State University's third annual WarriorThon. WarriorThon is a six hour long Dance Marathon that has a sole purpose of raising money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Each day these hospitals help thousands of children and their families with medical and financial needs. The money raised at each Dance Marathon goes directly to the hospital and helps with things as simple as a meal ticket that cost a few dollar, all the way up to a NICU Isolate that costs over $45,000. These hospitals, their abilities, and their staff are amazing. Every penny raised is worth it. If you are still not convinced to attend this years WarriorThon based on the fact that they do everything they can to help kids in the local community, let me further convince you with these twelve facts.

1. All of our heroes will be there

These five fantastic kids will be at our event each hour. We will get to meet them and their familes and hear about their experience with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

2. The theme rocks

This years theme is 'Hula For Our Heroes' we encourage everyone to come dressed up in their grass skirts and Hawaiian shirt.

3. It is a huge dance party

The entire point of the event is to dance and raise money for this cause. It is a huge dance party with our heroes games, food, and prizes spread through out the night.

4. We have a DJ

This years WarriorThon will be DJ-ed by none other than DJ Supafly. He is a DJ from Rochester, Minnesota that has worked with Mall of America, Target, Victoria Secrets and many other brands to host a fantastic music extravaganza. He is a great guy and I can not wait to hear what he can do at WarriorThon.

5. There will be free food

Everyone needs to eat if they are going to be on their feet for six hours. Do not worry about bringing a meal. We've got you covered.

6. You can get a Henna Tattoo

This year one of my close friends will be returning to do Henna Tattoos again. Instead of being there for just two hours, she will be there the entire time!

7. There is a cake walk

One of the games during the event is a cake walk. If you are the last in the circle you will win a delicious cupcake from Winona Bread & Bagel.

8. It is only 6 hours long

These six hours will fly by so fast you will want it to never end. The entire event is so much fun. You will want to come back again next year.

9. There is a raffle

Each year we have a raffle filled with pizza certificates, salon baskets, coffee gift cards and a bunch more of awesome prizes. Tickets are cheep and all of the money goes to the kids!

10. There is an ice cream eating contest

We not only have cake but we also have ice cream from Dairy Queen. Anyone can participate. If you win, you get a prize.

11. IT IS FOR THE KIDS!

All of the money raised goes to help the amazingly brave kids across America that receive treatment at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The local hospital near us that has this is Gundersen Health Systems.

If these many reasons have not convinced you yet, come by on February 25th and let the movement inspire you itself.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Spending five, 10 or even more weeks in the outdoors leading elementary to high school aged kids for a week at a time is unique, to say the least.
