Steph Curry led the Warriors to a 132-113 win over the Cavaliers in game 2 of the NBA Finals. Curry posted his first career postseason triple-double and teammate Kevin Durant had a double-double of his own. LeBron James also had a triple-double, but it wasn’t enough to compete with Golden State.
The first half was close with the Warriors taking a three-point lead into halftime. "We turned the ball over too much in the first half. But the second half, I think we settled in, tried to play simple and defensively just tried to contest their shots," Durant told ESPN.
Curry finished with 32 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, while Durant has 32 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. In all, Curry and Durant combined for 64 points.
On the Cleveland end, James finished with 29 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds, while Kevin Love had 27 points and Kyrie Irving had 19.
The Warriors are now 2 games away from winning their second championship in three years. They are still undefeated at 14-0 this postseason. Despite this, it was the nearly identical Cleveland Cavaliers that spoiled the 2015 Finals for the Dubs. In that series, the Warriors blew a 3-1 series lead. But this is a different team however, with the addition of Durant in the offseason, Golden State has given LeBron James and the Cavs headaches throughout the first two games.
Steve Kerr also rejoined the Warriors bench after missing most of the playoffs due to back surgery.
"He's been around, the last couple weeks especially, giving us input and giving us what he's got," Curry said of Kerr to ESPN. "But having him back on the bench means a lot. We love his presence.”
The series now heads back to Cleveland as the Cavs will try to defend their home court. “If you don’t protect home court, what happens?” LeBron asked reporters, “That should answer your question.”
