Devonte Jones of Baltimore, Maryland enters his junior year and second season with the Warriors. Prior to Merrimack, Jones started his college football career at ASA College, where he was selected to participate in the Carrier Dome Bowl Game. During Jones sophomore and debut season with the Warriors, he appeared in 10 games compiling 43 total tackles while leading the team with 4 interceptions for 71 yards. Jones also led the Warriors with two defensive touchdowns. Jones posted his first interception touchdown against Pace September 13, 2014 and his second on Senior Day against SCSU November 8, 2014.
Q: How long have you been playing football and how did you get interested in it?
A: I've been playing since I was 6. I got interested in football because my grandfather played semi pro, and I always looked up to him.
Q: After such a successful debut season with the Warriors, what are your personal and team goals going into your junior season?
A: My personal goal is to become an All-American DB and lead the conference in either interceptions, tackles or forced fumbles. Team goal is "Win the Day," just worry about one game at time.
Q: What's your mindset going into next season?
A: My mindset going into next year is to dominate the competition one game at a time.
Q: Who would you say has been most influential in your success both on and off the field?
A: My mother has been the most influential in my life. She is always pushing me to be great and giving me great advice for every situation.
Q: What is your best memory looking back on the 2014 season?
A: When we beat CW Post — great team win.
