With an official impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump led by Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats announced this week, the news cycle has momentarily moved away from the Democratic presidential hopefuls. In summary, Donald Trump called the new president of Ukraine and Trump asked the president to, among other things, basically dig up dirt on Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, over alleged inappropriate behavior when working in Ukraine.
Now, all aside from the political drama that will play out in Washington, one person is sure to be cash in the rewards from this situation — Massachusetts Senator and presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren.
Warren has been in the spotlight recently, not only for her plan-driven presidential bid but for how she slowly and steadily climbed to the top of the pack. Once a third-place candidate, she's now beating the conventional front runner, Joe Biden, and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in some recent polls. Warren has moved up to first in two other state polls, the most important early voting states Iowa and New Hampshire.
Warren has really hit her stride in the last few months. Performing well in debates, hitting home her policies, and drawing up good-sized crowds. But there are two good things going for her specifically because of the Ukraine scandal:
1. The allegations of illegality again the Bidens are almost certainlyfalse but their involvement in Ukrainian big-money business and politics might still seem swampy to voters.
2. Warren gets to hit talking points about why President Trump should be impeached on her campaign stops.
Elizabeth Warren has kept up with Sanders and Biden throughout the entire campaign. But now it's her race to lose. Her progressive, no-holds-barred type of campaigning is winning over voters in more rural areas, like New Hampshire and Iowa. She's climbing in other states like South Carolina and California. The senator has touted herself as the "policy wonk" in the race, and it may be paying off.
Yes, there is still way more campaigning to do, but you might just say September 25 has been the best day for the Warren campaign thus far.
