As most of you may know, the first day of spring has come! March 20th was the official “first day” of spring, however, depending on where you’re from, it may seem like a trick. Up here in Washington, the rain, wind, and snow (yes, it’s still snowing here) make it seem otherwise. Although in my hometown of Arizona, we’re confused if there was ever even a winter, and our seasons are more of a suggestion than an actual weather forecast.
Either way, either hemisphere, all clothing lines are ready for spring, and here are all the trends to get ready too.
A trend that has caught my eye and heart are those of the fanny packs/belt bags. “As seen on Instagram” should probably start to be a thing, because these cute little accessories are all over mine! Instagramers such as emmazoeyroche, viennawedekind have all been wearing such accessories, along with brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci coming out with their own versions too. These gems are perfect for outings in Europe (pickpockets are everywhere there) or going to festivals and other festivities. Yes, fanny packs have been back, but now it’s time to wear it in a different way: over the shoulder, like how you would wear a crossbody bag.
My other new favorite accessory is that of the tassel earrings. Full of color and attention-getting traits, you’ll definitely want these bad boys dangling off your lobes. I’ve seen so many variations of these earrings too, which means there is most likely a pair perfect for you. Tiered, puffs, fans, etc., no matter what style of these earrings you get, they’ll be sure to add the spice and everything nice to your wardrobe. If tassels aren’t your thing or it makes you think of weird, Las Vegas attire, then there is also the cool, edgy trend of mismatched earrings. I’ve seen these in studs as well as dangly earrings, and even mixtures of both. It’s a fun, underexaggerated way to add to your look without wearing pompoms on your face.
Checkmate! Mark me down as being a fan of this trend. Houndstooth and checkers are in for the win this spring. You’ve probably seen skirts/pants popping up here and there, but now they’re everywhere! Stores like Nasty Gal, Boohoo, Tiger Mist, and Forever21 are all on top of this. Various versions of checkers, plaids, and houndstooth are out and about and are sure to spice up your look.
Another trend that I love – but who am I kidding I love all of these trends – is that of fun and playful pants. A derivative from the checkered/hounds tooth pants mentioned before, people are wearing fun, colorful, patterned, and fabric pants. Along with these high-spirited hues/prints comes different fabrics too. Vinyl, corduroy and mixed jeans are all in-season.
On the opposite end of the plentiful color system, we have the trend of monochromatic. My personal favorite is the monochromatic scheme with different tones and shades of neutral colors. A look Kim Kardashian West is always spotted wearing. Another version of this look is the bright, pop of all the same color. This trend was seen consistently in streetwear during The Big 4 fashion weeks. This type of look is also sassily sported by instagramer Danielle Bernstein, owner of the account whowhatwear, which I highly suggest you follow for more trends, outfit ideas, and cool sneak peaks into the world of high fashion!
Tint versus shade. A tint is any color with white added to make it lighter, whereas a shade is any color that has black added to it to make it darker. This season is all about the tinted pastels. Something usually common at Easter brunch or baby showers, pastels are here for more than just those joyous occasions. Suits, pants, accessories, and even bright, colorful makeups are all tinted to pretty pastels this spring.
As a whole, spring 2018’s trends seem to be moving away from rips, fringe, and damaged fabrics and more towards monochromatic and minimalistic clothing. Outfits and articles of clothing are starting to focus more on interesting architecture of hemlines and shapes. A huge emphasis is on accessories such as the fringe earrings or belt bags for added effect and a different-looking silhouette.
So until next year’s spring has sprung, stock up on all these must-haves for the season.
