War On Body Types

Girls, it's time to stop.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a war on body types? By "war on body types," I mean girls are trying to prove to social media which body type is better... a skinnier body type, or a thicker body type. Thigh gap, or no thigh gap. "Bones" versus "meat."

GIRLS... why are we fighting each other?

Why are we trying to glorify certain body types and shame others? Every girl should know that it's okay to love herself and her body the way it is. It's okay to love yourself and your curves if you have them, it's okay to flaunt them because, hey, why not?! It's your body and if you're proud of it and you've learned to love yourself, then that's great! The same way that it's okay to love yourself if you're skinnier, if you love your thigh gap and are proud of it then that's awesome too! Love it and flaunt it and all of that great stuff!

What's not okay is girls who are trying to bring other girls down because of their body types. It's not okay to tell a skinny girl to go eat a burger the same way that it's not okay to tell a thicker girl to lose some weight. NEWS FLASH: some people can't lose weight as easily as others and some people can't gain weight as easily as others.

Don't bring down a skinnier girl and tell her to "eat a burger" because she has a thigh gap and you don't. You don't know what she's going through and what her struggle is, for all you know she's trying really hard to gain weight and she can't do it! Don't blame her for her body type because she can't control it. Let her love her body, she probably tried gaining weight but then realized she didn't need to because she's perfect the way she is.

Don't tell a thicker girl she needs to lose weight because she doesn't have a thigh gap and you do. You have no idea what she's going through and her personal struggle. She's probably tried losing weight in the past until she realized that she's perfect that way that she is.

No girl should feel like she needs to change herself for society, no girl should feel like she isn't desired because of what social media says is beautiful. Let a girl be happy in her own skin, quit trying to prove that one body type is the better body type or the more attractive body type, because who cares. Girls, you don't have to change yourself for a boy. He isn't worth it, I'll let you know right now. If he cares for you and likes you for you then he won't care about your body type, he won't make you feel inferior to other girls because you don't look like them. You deserve to be happy and to love yourself for who you are.

Self love girl, self love. It may take a minute and some hard work to get there, but it's important.

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

The college years are a time for personal growth and success. Everyone comes in with expectations about how their life is supposed to turn out and envision the future. We all freak out when things don't go exactly as planned or when our expectations are unmet. As time goes on, we realize that the uncertainty of college is what makes it great. Here are some helpful reminders about life in college.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.
