A War Has Broken Out Between Miami University's Upperclassmen And Freshmen Due To COVID

In This Article:

President Crawford announced this week that Miami University would be welcoming freshmen and other students back to campus starting September 14th. One would think that this is a good thing, however, the upperclassmen are not too happy about it. An Instagram account called @miamiohchicks posted an Instagram story that asked their followers to give freshmen advice, but that's not exactly what came out of it.

Messages immediately started flowing in. One thing led to another, and eventually, war had completely broken out between the freshman and upperclassman. The upperclassman had started making comments about how the freshman needed to stay in dorms and not go out, party, or anything even remotely close to leaving the dorms.

They said that the seats at Brick are for the upperclassman only and that the freshman needed to stay out of uptown. The freshman then retaliated and started saying that the upperclassman had their turn and that they now need to let the freshman experience college. This made everything worse.

The upperclassman started bringing points such as how all the upperclassmen were the ones working the bars and they are the ones throwing the off-campus parties at college. The said that if the freshman didn't stay in their dorms or at the bare minimum keep out of Brick, the upperclassman would stop inviting or letting freshman come to off-campus parties and they would start getting strict and taking the underclassmen's fake ID's when they try to get into Brick or any other bar.

This, of course, caused the freshman to erupt. Some freshmen wrote in and said that there was a freshman group chat and it was going crazy. They said that they were the ones who were supposed to be partying right now and that COVID-19 basically wouldn't be on campus if the upperclassman weren't there. Other freshmen were wanting to completely get away and not even associate with the class of 2024. Who knows if this will all be resolved once Miami is back and all the students are moved in.

Below are just some of the submissions that were posted in this feed. To read all of the posts go to @miamiohchicks Instagram page and look at their story called Feud.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens once everyone is back on campus.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
