We're constantly surrounded by the qualities society finds beautiful; on social media, advertisements, and life in general. But, we're also told that wanting these things that society finds beautiful is wrong and only feeding the evilness of this beauty-obsessed society. I have a different opinion. I think you wanting a flat stomach and a big butt isn't a bad thing just because it is a "society-approved" body. I think anyone can want (and have) any body that they want, and I'm tired of feeling guilty for that.
I don't make it to the gym as much as I'd like and yeah, sometimes I eat a few more slices of pizza than I should. I'm not at all saying not eating or working out religiously is the only way to achieve what society wants us to look like, and that isn't even the basis of this at all.
It's important to look how you want to look.
It's not important how your boyfriend wants you to look or how your mom wants you to look and especially not how society wants you to look. You are the only person who matters here. But, there should be no shame if you do want to look like the "society-approved" beautiful girl you see every Monday you make it to the gym.
Personally, I find it aggravating and hypocritical when people diss what society approves as beautiful, yes it is unhealthy how it affects women and young girls sometimes, but there are also healthy aspects to this "society-approved" beauty phenomenon. Working to become a better version of myself mentally and physically makes me feel good, taking care of myself makes me feel good, and learning diet and exercise tricks to slim down or rid myself of some of my biggest insecurities is healthy.
You should love the body you're in, but it's OK to want to change it too.
"Accept what you cannot change and change what you cannot accept"
This quote always hits me hard because it is important to accept and love yourself, to be nice to yourself and eat what you want, but there is also a part of self-love that embodies taking care of your body and not eating the entire cake. It is beautiful to know what you want and to work after it, it makes you strong and builds a fire within you that begins a revolution of yourself.
Insecurities tend to hold us all back in one way or another, so if you could eliminate those or at least work to make them less of a burden on yourself, wouldn't you?
There should be no shame in working on yourself, for yourself, by yourself. Just don't forget having a life and not becoming completely engulfed in this society approved beauty in every aspect of your life is important and keeps you on the healthy track.
So, go out to eat with your friends and order something, the gym will be there tomorrow, but the sweet potato fries won't.
You can be whoever you wish in this world, I think a lot of us forget that too often. So if you're living a life that doesn't make you wake up excited every morning, or if you are someone who doesn't make you happy, change something.
And know that there is absolutely no shame in the journey to getting to be exactly who you want to be, whoever that is.
