5 Reasons Why YOU Should Write For Odyssey

Roughly a year ago, one of my closest friends convinced me to apply to join the Johns Creek Odyssey community, and its been one of my best decisions yet. If you want to get your ideas and writing out into the world, applying to write for the Odyssey might be your next step. Here are some reasons why you should try it out:

1. You can get write what YOU want to!

It's not often that you get to publish exactly what you want, especially on a public platform. Odyssey "democratizes its content," giving content creators the ability to share what's most important to them.

2. It gives you experience you can't get anywhere else.

The experience you get writing for the Odyssey is unlike that of any other online platform. Its distinctive set-up allows you to gain the knowledge and disciplinary skills necessary for future careers, while providing a unique, mutualistic relationship between editors and creators. You learn how to manage time, improve your writing skills, and advertise your content on social media, gaining indispensable expertise.

3. Demands are reasonable.

Depending on your community leaders, you may have to meet different deadlines. However, Odyssey is adamant about flexibility and understanding among its contributors, so you'll never have to feel intimidated to reach out to someone in your community if you're feeling stressed about meeting a deadline.

4. It will encourage you to do something you love!

Many writers absolutely cherish and live for their time to write, but rarely have the free moment for it. Having something in place that encourages you to write often will allow you to make time for something you love! It will also cause you to seek inspiration subconsciously and constantly produce some of your best work. You will continuously surprise yourself!

5. You'll expand your horizons.

A lot of writers are used to writing one specific type of piece and are limited to that particular genre. Being in a community of diverse content creators will pry you from your comfort zone and encourage you to write all sorts of different things. Also, writing on a regular basis will allow you to truly discover yourself, your style, and fullest potential.

Plus, as an incentive...it looks really good on resumes.

And lastly...it's tons of fun!

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.
