Walkable Restaurants From Tech

Everyone has to eat in order to survive, and if you’re like me  and don’t have a meal plan on weekends, want to get out of Tech Square and don’t have a car on campus, it can be fairly difficult to find a ride to a restaurant or just some good ol’ fast food. But fear not, we live in Atlanta -- one of the greatest cities in the world and home to some of the best food. There are dozens and dozens of restaurants in walking distance from Tech. Let me give you some help and name my favorite restaurants that are less than a mile away.

1.GoodFella's Pizza and Wings (0.3 miles)

Offering pizzas, wings, and calzones at college-budget prices, GoodFellas sits a block from North Avenue Apartments just past The Varsity. It’s a great location for those east campus freshmen who need a quick bite. They also deliver!  http://goodfellasatlanta.com/

2. Prickly Pear Taqueria (0.4 miles)

If you are looking for a colorful, lively atmosphere, Prickly Pear on a Friday night is the place to be. With delicious Mexican food and dozens of margarita choices, grab a group and head here for some Friday fiesta fun. http://pricklypearatlanta.com/

3. Cypress Street Pint and Plate (0.4 miles)

Located only three blocks from Tech Square, this restaurant serves southern inspired sandwiches, salads, and burgers. Don’t forget to try the sublime doughnut burger; it’s a sweet and salty combination that you can’t say no to. http://www.cypressbar.com/

4. Señor Patrón (0.5 miles)

Just past Cypress Street, you’ll run into this authentic Mexican restaurant. Serving up specialty burritos, tacos, and enchiladas, this restaurant will spice up your mealtime. http://www.senorpatronatl.com/

5. Noodle (0.6 miles)

This modern Asian restaurant focuses on flavor. With a menu filled with tasty choices from multiple Asian cuisines, you can be sure to find something that can satisfy your taste buds.  http://www.noodlehouse.net/midtown.htm

6. The Vortex Bar and Grill (0.6 miles)

Known for its rebelliously worded menu and its out-of-this-world burgers, these guys have nailed it. From ooey gooey cheeses and guacamole, to peanut butter, they aren’t afraid to give you a burger filled with all of your favorite toppings. They aren’t afraid to do anything, even making a burger that’s over half a foot tall! Share it with friends or eat it alone, the triple coronary bypass is served with three burger patties, three fried eggs, fourteen slices of American cheese, and 10 slices of bacon all stuffed between two grilled cheese sandwiches. http://www.thevortexbarandgrill.com/

7.Silver Skillet (0.8 miles)

Featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, And Dives, this family owned and run diner has the hottest and fluffiest biscuits around town. But save room for dessert because their lemon ice-box pie was voted as one of the “5 Best Pies in the USA.”   http://www.thesilverskillet.com/

8. Café Intermezzo (0.8 miles)

Searching for a classy, elegant restaurant to take a date or maybe just indulge in slices of homemade cake on a Saturday night? Café Intermezzo’s beverage book, alone, has more than 50 pages. With coffees, pastries, crepes, sandwiches and more from different European cultures, you can be sure to find something that will make you remember why you love food so much.  http://www.cafeintermezzo.com/

9. Rocky Mountain Pizza Company (0.8 miles)

Just at the corner of 10th and Hemphill lies this gem -- a small pizza joint serving up big taste. With weekly events like trivia and karaoke, you’ll want to stop by here just for the fun of it.   http://www.rockymountainpizza.com/index.php

10. Carolyn’s Gourmet Café (0.8 miles)

If you thought that all you eat pancakes at Denny’s was a cool idea, come to Carolyn’s for an even better one. On Tuesdays, Carolyn’s offers all you can eat wings and fries, and on Fridays, all you can eat pizza bar for only $2.99. Now, if that doesn’t make you want to walk here, I don’t know what will. http://www.carolynsmidtown.com/

11. The Flying Biscuit Café (0.9 miles)

Last, but not least, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. With endless brunch options and their award winning creamy, dreamy grits, this restaurant is the crème de la crème. Also offering healthier breakfast items like turkey bacon, chicken sausage, and whole wheat biscuits, head on over to The Flying Biscuit and enjoy yourself some brunch.   http://www.flyingbiscuit.com/

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
