A little over a year ago, the band WALK THE MOON announced that they would be taking a much-needed break, after front man Nick Petricca found out that his father was very sick. The future of the band seemed uncertain as they struggled with exhaustion and personal troubles. After announcing their comeback, they have made no effort to keep it a secret that they were facing hardships that led them very close to breaking up.
Lucky for us, they stayed together.
After their break, they returned better than ever. They showed that their break made them stronger. Their new album “What If Nothing” was just released on Friday November 10th, and they are gearing up to begin touring within the next few months.
WALK THE MOON began with their debut self-titled album “Walk the Moon”. This album showed their alternative rock side, where their second album “Talking Is Hard” demonstrated more of a pop vibe. “What If Nothing” is somewhere in the middle.
Their first single from the new album, “One Foot”, showed that they would not be changing their beloved sound. Songs such as “Surrender”, “Kamikaze”, “All I Want”, and “Can’t Sleep (Wolves)” keep the same fun loving, yet deep, style of WALK THE MOON that we all know and love. Songs such as “Tiger Teeth” and “Press Restart” demonstrate a new sound for WALK THE MOON, which just might be their best sound, yet.
WALK THE MOON plays with different sounds within this album. There are some songs on the album where they add hip-hop vibes to their background music, where there are some with hard-rock vibes incorporated. Not only are they successful in both wildly different areas, they make it sound like it is second nature to them.
Each of the songs vary fiercely from one another but manage to fill us with the same warmth that WALK THE MOON always brings. I think I can speak for WALK THE MOON fans everywhere when I say that we are so grateful they worked through their troubles and didn’t break up.
