Looking back at some of the best, crazy moments and more at Degrassi!

Degrassi has always been one of my favorite shows. And in honor of season two of Degrassi: Next Class premiering on Netflix a few weeks ago (Don't worry I won't post any spoliers from Degrassi: Next Class Season 2 if you haven't seen it yet), I thought about looking back at my favorite, most shocking, and outrageous moments that makes Degrassi the show it is today! :)

The show discusses many different topics from rape, domestic violence, teen pregnancy, medical issues, LGBT, suicide, to death and how to cope with it.

Most Heartbreaking Deaths:

1. J.T. Yorke

When J.T. is stabbed by kids from rival school Lakehurst in Season 6, it broke my heart. J.T. realized he still has feelings for Liberty. He was on his way to tell her and he was stabbed by one of the kids from Lakehurst. I really wanted to see what his future would be like after Degrassi. Heck I wish he wasn't killed off so he could've been apart of the Degrassi: Next Class reunion episode.

2. Adam Torres

Adam died in a car accident in Season 13 while texting and driving. I respected the fact that he stayed strong when everyone found out that he was transgender (Female to Male). I really wish he wasn't killed off, I really wanted to see him graduate! :(

3. Cam Saunders

Cam committed suicide in Season 12 due to his depression. I thought that him and Maya were such a cute couple, plus he was such a good hockey player. Heck he could've played hockey in Japan with Dallas after he graduated. :(

My Favorite/Craziest Moments

1. Spinner and Emma Get Married

This was one of the most shocking, unexpected, yet cutest moments I've seen on Degrassi. I never seen this wedding coming!! In Season 9 in Degrassi Takes Manhattan, Emma returns from her biking tour and gets a job at The Dot (where Spinner works). Spinner is still upset after finding out that his girlfriend Jane cheated on him with Declan, and breaking up with her. Jay (Spinner's best friend), and Manny (Emma's best friend) took Spinner to Niagara Falls to cheer him up after his break up funk. What ended up happening was Spinner and Emma got crazy drunk, and got married. When they were thinking about divorcing and taking back the marriage, they fell in love. <3

2. Eli's Speech During Love Roulette

During Season 11 we find out that Eli has a bipolar disorder and he has to take medication in order to keep him calm. He wrote a play called Love Roulette that had to do with the incident that happened at the Vegas Night Dance (Season 10). At the end of the play, Eli (who hasn't taken his meds) goes off script improvising a speech about how we don't always get happy ending.

"No matter how much all of you want a happy ending, you can't have it! I tried to write one, but it's impossible. I rewrote and rewrote, but things kept changing. And I hurt people, and I...I knew they were hurting, but I didn't stop...because your mind tricks you...it tricks you into thinking that things are fine, well they're not fine, nothing's fine, it's all WRONG! I'm all wrong. So that's it. There's no happy ending."

Instead of doing an epic mic drop, he sets fire to his script and throws it in the trash.

3. School Shooting At Degrassi

In Season 4, Rick lashed out after being bullied (because he put his girlfriend Terri in a coma, due to his neglect), and having yellow paint and feathers dropped on him, on live TV; he finally took it as the last straw. He went back home, cleaned himself up, grabbed his parents' gun, and went back to school. Spinner and Jay made sure that Rick overheard them say that the whole prank was Jimmy's idea. He went to find Jimmy, and next thing you know Jimmy was shot, fell on the ground, and woke up paralyzed from the waist down. One of the most intense moments in Degrassi history.

I didn't want to share ALL of my favorite Degrassi moments because this would be a very long, long, LONG, article. What are your favorite moments from Degrassi?

If you haven't already, I suggest you watch Season 2 of Degrassi: Next Class on Netflix! It's so good! Especially the reunion episode (I wish we could see more of the cast), and the last episode! I wish they wouldnt have left us hanging like that! Also can they please make more than 10 episodes a season?! Because 10 is NOT enough.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
