We all have those days where getting out of bed seems nearly impossible, especially on those mornings when we have class. Sometimes you have to tell yourself "five more minutes", but then five minutes turns into 10 minutes, and then 10 minutes turns into 20 minutes. Eventually, you find yourself rushing to get ready for class because you decided to snooze all four of your alarms.
Sometimes you can surprise yourself and wake up to that first alarm, but that's highly unlikely. More times than not you're going to hit snooze at least once.
Either way, early mornings are relatable to four out of the five stages of grief. Here's an inside look at how my mornings go.
1. Denial
My first one goes off at 9:00 am and I never went to believe that it's already time to wake up. A 9:00 am alarm may seem reasonable to most people, but a piece of me dies on the inside when I have to set it the night before as well as when it goes off in the morning.
2. Anger
By the time my fourth alarm goes off, reality sets in and so does a sense of self-loathing. I'm always mad that I let my laziness and comfort of my bed get to this point, but I have nobody to blame but myself.
3. Bargaining
When it becomes evident that you're going to have to get out of bed, it's time to make a deal with yourself. You might tell yourself "Oh just two classes and then we can take a nap before the last one." You could even reward yourself with that Chipotle you've been craving for four days.
4. Acceptance
After refreshing your email seven times, you realize this class isn't going to be canceled. You roll out of bed with just enough time to brush your teeth and throw on deodorant. You may still be in your pajamas or maybe even last night's clothes, but at least you made it to class, right?
