Can you do it? I did a test trial: Five days with getting a ton done before 8 a.m.
Sure, I was extremely tired when I first started out, but as the days passed by, I got pretty used to it.
The first day might have been nearly the toughest. I got up at 6 a.m. and desperately wanted to go back to bed. Knowing though that I was up for a challenge, I fought the urge. I got up, washed my face, brushed my teeth, put on some fresh clothes, and was ready to emerge into the breakfast world. This was difficult because I normally don’t eat super early, so I tried to settle with avocado toast (which is always amazing).
I love listening to music in the morning, but since I didn’t want to wake my housemates, I put on some headphones and did the thing that I love most… I made coffee! I then proceeded to check emails, get a little distracted by YouTube, and plan out my day. Dancing in the morning also helps me start any day in a positive and energetic mood, so don’t be afraid to bust a move or two before your morning class.
This was pretty much my routine for all five days. However, it got really tough in the middle, mostly because that was when one night I went to bed really late… Trust me, I regretted it immediately when I awoke. But this was an interesting experience overall, especially with already having all morning classes. Over time though, I can imagine that waking up early will get easier, and I would become more strict on not staying up late. Hopefully, I won’t need to anyway because I will (ideally) maximize my time during the day to be free to do whatever I want and sleep at a decent time at night.
In a quarter in which I have evening classes, I would like to try this experiment again. Not only can I enjoy my morning, I’ll be able to be productive before class too. Maximizing my day hours studying will help maximize my night hours sleeping. Win-win situation here!
With more time, I would like to try working out 3/5 of the mornings. I would think it would make me more energized over time because I would sleep better the following night, right?
Test waking up early for a few days consecutively and record your experience. Who knows? You might find it being part of your new and improved lifestyle!
