On an average day, you either wake up to the bolting sound of your alarm in the morning or the smell of coffee while waiting in line at Starbucks. Or perhaps - do we even wake up at all? We've convinced ourselves to remain in this never ending cycle whether it's school, work, sleep and repeat the same thing all over again the next day.
Flash forward, years pass by, we find ourselves trying to remain present on the idea that we should just "Let life happen." We're distancing ourselves from a major reality check - We are what happens to life.
Our thoughts. Our decisions. Our actions.
The problem isn't the lack of time... it's the lack of direction. You have the same 24 hours in a day that J.K Rowling and Christiano Ronaldo have, so what's stopping you?
3 Major Key Steps to Wake Up:
1. Stop. Blaming. Your. Surroundings.
This habit is a recurring problem for many people who often base their satisfaction by comparing their successes with their friends, or family or colleagues.
Are you happy with the people you surround yourself with? Are your friends or colleagues bringing you higher? Or are they slowing you down? Deep down, we know the answer.
Don't take advice from people who won't be affected by the outcome.
2. Leave the past where it belongs - the past.
It's only natural to replay memories or experiences in your head from time to time. But you have to remind yourself, subconsciously, If you're constantly thinking about the past - you will be stuck in it.
Move forward, push through, even if it takes trying again or starting over.. every. single. morning.. for days, weeks or even months at a time. Train yourself - to find the blessing in everything. You'll be so focused on staying consistent that you won't even realize how far you've come.
3. We're excited about the wrong things.
You didn't wake up to be mediocre - What gets you excited every day? I'm not talking about winning free tickets to a sports game or catching up on your favorite Netflix series. Let go of expectations from other people and take a step back to look at how you actually spend a typical day. Better yet - write it down. What do you spend most of your day doing? Unless you're getting paid to scroll through social media for more than a few hours, I suggest you wake up.
