Wakaan Takes Over & Owns NYC
Webster Hall

The perfect mix of friendship and business, Liquid Stranger's new label Wakaan is ready to take over way more than just Webster Hall. Leading an all-night-long bass-driven dream, the Wakaan crew got together at the legendary NYC venue on Friday to deliver a whole new meaning to bass music and bring a new vitality to dubstep. A record label for eclectic music and art, Wakaan is led by respected producer and DJ Liquid Stranger, and the home of extremely talented artists such as Space Jesus, Esseks, Yheti, Shlump and many more. Bringing heaters and keeping the crowd ecstatic all night, is safe to say Wakaan’s NYC takeover was a success for both the label and the sold out crowd.

Opening new doors to bass music and recreating the concept of it, Wakaan’s secret recipe is evident: the ideal fusion of passion, talent and friendship. Just a group of friends on the same wave length, the Wakaan’s troop performance at Webster Hall was nothing but stellar; one of those nights where you can feel the energy traveling from the stage to the crowd and back, creating real synergy. Setting the night off with Perkulat0r and followed by Esseks, by 1am you could already feel the label’s character and the artists’ intention for the night. With Space Jesus and Liquid Stranger absolutely murdering their sets right after, the Wakaan squad did not disappoint when getting together for a legendary b2b2b2b set to close off the night right. Showing indisputable compatibility, the Wakaan crew teased unreleased tracks and played their self-styled bass music having the crowd’s mind absolutely blown and buzzing for more when the clock hit 4:30am.

Riding a rollercoaster of bass all night, the Wakaan takeover was a sneak peek of all the label has to offer; authentic talent who can delight a sold out room on their own, but when combined, can offer a mastery and understanding of beats never seen before. There is no doubt that Wakaan is starting to breed a true sense of community within the dance music scene, which is nothing more than a reflection of their integrants’ genuine connection and friendship. Having the whole venue smiling ear to ear all night, one thing is certain: Wakaan's alien bass music came from space, and is here to stay.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
