Reassurance is one thing that every person seems to need on a daily bases. The Israelites always wanted God to reassure them by physical proof. In the verse Joshua 3:10, God reassures the Israelites through the promise that he speaks to Joshua. God promised them that he was with them and that he would drive the people in Canaan out so that they could dwell in the Promised Land. God was reassuring them yet again even though they had physical evidence and past experiences to prove that he would keep his promises. Even though God proves himself time and time again, we still want reassurance.
God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians and had taken them to the land of Canaan, yet they still questioned how God could make the land theirs. He had proven himself to them many times and had shown that what He said He would do. Not only did they have God’s word, but they had seen the marvelous miracles He performed with their own eyes. God had never broken a promise. Yet here He is, once again, reassuring His people that they would dwell in the Promised Land. If from the beginning the Israelites had believed in God’s promised plan, they would have saved themselves a lot of heartache.
We cannot take it too hard on the Israelites. We all have doubted in God’s promises to us, at least I have. No matter how hard I try, I always seem to doubt Him. I find myself in tuff situations that I don’t think I could possibly overcome. I try everything that I can on my own until I finally turn to God, rely on his promises, and give him my burdens. If I would just give everything to God in the first place, I would have a lot less heartache. Instead, I wait for His reassurance.
Christian always seem to need reassurance from God even though he has a perfect track record. Never once had God gone back on a promise. Because of this, we know that everything that he says is true. If we can believe this without needing his reassurance all of the time, God can take control and save us from ourselves. So, let God save and protect you, and in turn listen to His unspoken reassurance.
