Wait, So Does November Mean That The Christmas Season Is Here?

The two mindsets that November carries

Wait, So Does November Mean That The Christmas Season Is Here?

There are two mindsets to November:

1) It's the Christmas Season

OR

2) Only one more month until the Christmas Season starts

So, which one are you? October 31 comes to a close, what is your next thought? Some may look at these two mindsets and question if they are the same thing when they are actually completely different.

The first mindset means the Christmas tree, Christmas carols, and Christmas decorations come out literally the day after Halloween. It means there are only a limited number of days until the happiest time of the year and time is already so limited.

There is so much to do! Christmas lists have to get done, the house has to get decorated, time to pull out the Christmas movies people because it is the Christmas Season. The point to this mindset is that the Christmas season is: here.

The second mindset is more relaxed about the Christmas season approaching. Those with mindset number two recognize there is one more holiday before all the Christmas cheer can begin: Thanksgiving.

People go around thinking about recipes to bring to the family dinner, inviting people over for turkey day, maybe they even buy some fall candles to put around the house. I know I personally can't wait to stuff my face with apple crumb and pumpkin pies (obviously the best part of Thanksgiving duh).

The key point to this mindset is that November promises that the Christmas season is: approaching.

I enjoy Christmas as much as the next person but in my opinion, there has to be some type of break between Halloween and the holiday most people wait year-round for. I do not necessarily think that the Christmas season should start in December, but I don't think it should start before Thanksgiving either.

For me, my Christmas season starts as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is over, yes that's right, once midnight hits on Thanksgiving and Black Friday begins, so does the Christmas season. Someone may ask why, and the answer is very simple: It's because I begin my Christmas shopping on Black Friday.

Once I start buying gifts to wrap, that initiates the Christmas season for me. I like to have my tree up and decorated by December 1st, and I want to start wrapping gifts the second the month comes around.

*Cue the hot chocolate, Christmas candles, and loads of wrapping paper and bows*

I do not think it's crazy when the Christmas season begins on November 1st for some, but personally, I need time to mentally prepare for all the Santa movies and ugly Christmas sweater parties.

I'm impatiently waiting for the greatest holiday to come too, which is why I don't wait for December to roll around before I start celebrating. Christmas comes with the promise of joy, happiness, laughter, family, and fun. Who would actually want to wait longer for that time to come around?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
