Stop Settling: Why You Need To Wait For The Right One

Don't settle for anything less than what you deserve.

Stop Settling: Why You Need To Wait For The Right One

Wait for him.

Wait for the one that makes your heart beat out of time and your soul sing.

Wait for the one who fits in your life like a puzzle piece.

Wait for the one who will go to breakfast with you at 10 a.m. and Taco Bell at 11 p.m. and every other place in between.

Wait for the one who will sit on the floor with you and take hours to complete the 3000-piece Bengal Tiger puzzle you randomly found in the bottom of your closet.

Wait for the one who loves all the things that you hate: your fading dyed hair, chipped nail polish, imperfect skin.

Wait for the one who pushes you, pushes you to always be your best.

Wait for the one who loves the way you look in your favorite worn-out sweatshirt and your hair on top of your head. You don't always have to dress to impress.

Wait for the one who never minds your anxious thoughts and quivering fingers.

Wait for the one who builds you up. There's no room in your life for anyone who tears you down, period. You don't need that kind of negative energy.

Wait for the one who will be with you when the tears fall on the floor and you just need someone's arms around you.

Wait for the one who will laugh at your stupid puns and jokes, even when they really aren't that funny.

Wait for the one who watches your favorite movie with you even though you've made him watch it 100 other times.

Wait for the one who is your very best friend.

Wait for the one who will go out and get the necessary items because yeah, periods suck and we're allowed to wallow for a bit.

Wait for the one who doesn't get embarrassed by your crazy dance moves.

Wait for the one who will patiently read and respond to all of your uppercased ranting texts from the bad day you just had.

Wait for the one who sees right through you when you nod and say that everything's fine.

Wait for the one who surpasses all of the cliche things you thought about love and carves a new place in your heart, a place that you thought would never be etched on.

I cannot stress this enough: do not ever settle. Do not ever think that you deserve anything less than the best.

You've got a fire burning inside you that should never be stifled, and you are worthy of the whole world and a little bit more. You need someone who recognizes you for the kick-ass woman that you are. You need to have someone who knows you and loves every single inch.

The most important part of all of this: you are never too much and you are always enough. Surround yourself with the positive energy you've been craving. When the time is right, when you find the one you've been longing for, you'll know. You'll just know.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
