The pros and cons behind taking unperscribed stimulants

Vyvanse is a stimulant drug like Adderall or Focalin. These types of drugs are classified controlled Schedule II, which means they are super effective, closely monitored, and require a doctor's prescription. These drugs work to increase brain activity, obesity, and other neurological problems but are also highly addictive. Usually, these types of drugs are prescribed to people with ADD or ADHD, to help them with school and everyday life.

Those are the scientific facts.

Here is what Vyvanse and the other drugs have become: college student's magic pill.

Vyvanse and others have become one of the most sought after drugs on college campuses. During midterms and finals, someone could sell their Vyvanse for $10 a pill-seriously. Students use them to cram for tests, write essays in tight time frames, and to party all night. It's become a downright epidemic.

But is it such a bad thing?

Okay, yes -- taking medicines you are not prescribed is dangerous and almost stupid. With that out of the way, how can taking medicine that literally makes you do better in school be such a bad thing? Truth is, it's not. If you have the courage to take a pill, that you have no idea how your body will react to it; then it turns out to be the greatest blessing of your college career-why not take it?

So let's break this down:

Cons:

1. It is flat out illegal.

2. Your heart could literally explode.

3. You could have a number of terrible reactions to it.

4. It is, again, I can't stress this enough, flat-out illegal.

Pros:

1. You'll study like you never have before.

2. You'll get more work done in less time.

3. You'll be on point with your head in the game for any test or paper coming your way.

4. You'll eat less-thus saving money.

5. Your grades will probably, more than likely, improve drastically.

So, what do you think about it now, as you weigh the pros and cons?

Will it be Vyvanse or bust?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
