The gaming industry has seen some major changes within the last few years that really indicate some back and forth between good and bad decisions. Whether we like to admit it or not, gaming is a business and businesses follow capitalism. We all have to make our money somehow! However, companies have really taken initiative to expand what gaming consoles and PC's are capable of. A prime example of this is virtual reality.
What is Virtual Reality?
Virtual reality speaks for itself in a way. Imagine yourself in a virtual world only this time, it's no longer an imagination. Virtual reality headsets create 360 degree animated images that are projected from the game into the lens of the headset. It is almost like a combination of watching a movie and playing a video game at the same exact time but the only thing is, you're the star! There are currently three types of virtual reality headsets on the market at the moment, the Oculus Rift, the Steam Vive, and the PlayStation VR.
Who is this good for?
The thing that makes virtual reality so amazing is that almost anyone can easily use it, even non-gamers! The virtual reality headset in more recent cases can take control of many aspects of the game, especially when combined with motion controllers. In some aspects, the VR headset is the only controller that you will need!
Where could Virtual Reality go?
Virtual Reality is still a new piece of technology which means there are still so many directions that developers could go in improving and reinventing it! I am personally looking forward to seeing gloves that attach to motion controllers creating a more realistic feel to the interactive portion of VR. There also could be improved features to the headsets themselves to add interactivity to them like vibration and sounds to add to the experience of entering a virtual universe. The possibilities are almost endless!
Virtual reality currently is only a piece of what developers can really do to bend reality into our own hands more than it already is. All we can do is trust that virtual reality is only the beginning!
