Vows To My Future Husband

A letter to my future husband; a man I have never met.

To my future husband,

As of this very moment, I do not believe our lives have intersected just yet. While I can’t wait to meet the man God intends for me to marry, I will be as patient as possible until He is ready for our paths to cross. Maybe we have seen each other in passing at the supermarket, or even made small talk while out and about. When the time comes for us to meet, I know we both will be ready.

I promise that I will always be 100% dedicated to our relationship. I know I can be incredibly stubborn, but our relationship will be my top priority. I have a strong belief that when you make room for God in a relationship, nothing can cause it to sink. I vow to always place our difficulties in His hands to help find the strength to fix it. I promise to always keep my ears open when you need to be heard. I will continue to be the rock you need on your weakest days and I know you will do the same for me.

While we have not met, I know our home will be full of joy and laughter consistently. The man I will share my life with will be the father our children deserve. You will be the steady guide in their lives to always show them right from wrong. However, you will also be the comic relief during their bad days. I vow to always be the equal partner you need to provide our children with a loving home.

There are a few things you should know about me first. My feet are always cold. I will never be able to reach the top shelf of anything. I can’t sugar coat anything to make it sound nicer. My facial expressions do not hide the way I’m feeling. But I have a huge heart and love hard. The man God has created for me will be able to compliment my flaws effortlessly. For that, I am already thankful.

To some, I’m probably crazy for making such bold vows to a man I haven’t even met. To me, I am preparing for the greatest years of my life. When you find your way to me, I will enjoy every second of the adventure. Until then, I can only imagine what your life is like for now. I have had my fair share of heartache throughout my journey to meet you, but I know it will all be worth it in the end. If you can love the wrong person that much, just imagine how much love you can give to the right one!

I will never regret those who had my heart before you because they showed me what I truly want in a relationship. I understand that no one is perfect, however, I know that when the time is right, we will be perfect for each other. You will come to learn that I’m most likely one of the least patient people on the planet. It has taken me some time to understand why you couldn’t be in my life sooner, but I believe that timing is everything. I can’t wait to meet you when I am meant to.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
