You turn 16, you get your permit and you learn to drive. That's all you care about in that moment. Yet you turn 18, you get your voter registration and you put it to the side. That's the last thing you care about in that moment. Why? Todays society seems to think that their vote, YOUR vote, does not matter. I guess I just seem to not understand how you could get the right that people had to fight for, and just toss it aside like junk mail.
This article isn't me telling you who to vote for, honestly my political views wont even be shared, but my push for voting will be. Voting aids in the health of America. Voting is so important that we have five amendments (14th, 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th) as well as an act (Voting Rights Act of 1965) to ensure we all can vote for a leader to fill the presidential position.
I remember the minute I received my registration in the mail. I was so excited to fill it out and send it back. I could not wait to vote in the election. I could not wait to attempt to make a difference in society. Why? Because weather you believe it or not, my vote matters.
Currently while watching the second debate I realized a majority of my friends are either not registered or are and are choosing not to vote. It mind boggles me. How could someone voluntarily give up that right? Do they not have friends or family who could be seriously affected by the outcome? Maybe they do not know someone in the service? Do they not have loans and bills to pay?
Voting, while it can take forever to get to the poll, is the single most powerful thing we as citizens can do. We should take that right and value it, treat it as a right that can be taken away. Republican or Democratic, female or male, old or young, vote. Make sure your friends and family vote. Make sure that you make a difference. Stay up to date on politics (I promise when you can actually vote its a lot more interesting). So, as November creeps up on us, make sure you form an opinion, no matter what it is. Take this election and use it to share your opinions. Happy Election year everyone.
