Voting For Dummies

Because November will be here before you know it.

November 8, 2016 is going to be a very important day to anyone that is a citizen of The United States of America, and the whole world for that matter. You see, unless you have been living under a rock for the past year and a half, November 8, 2016 is the day that we vote on the next president of the USA. Now, it occurred to me during the primaries that many people did not know how to vote/register to vote, who to vote for, or how to find the voting center nearest to them. So take a seat, strap in, and get ready for a bumpy ride because, in one article or less, you will know exactly what to do when November 8th comes around.

1. How old are you?

No, seriously, how old are you? Whereas you need to be 18 years old to vote, in some states, such as Florida, you only have to be 16 to register (although you will be waiting two years before you can go near a ballot. In states like North Dakota, however, no registration is required.

2. Has the deadline to register past?

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO REGISTER TO VOTE (unless you live in North Dakota, than this doesn't apply to you...yay). For many states, voting registration closes almost 30 days before the election. Which is partially why this article is being written in August... don't procrastinate people.

3. It's November 8th, Show up to a voting center!

It's not to difficult to figure out where to vote, just google or call your local board of elections. If you know now that you will not be home or able to vote on November 8th, go online and request an absentee ballot (vote by mail) or even vote early.

4. Bring your I.D.

As with the points listed above, states differ on what forms of I.D. voters need to have with them when they go to vote.

5. Don't know who to vote for because your still under that rock?

In case you didn't follow the primaries, or any elections news, the Republican candidate for the Presidency is Donald Trump (that reality TV show guy with a comb over) and the Democratic Nominee is Hillary Clinton (that chick that got in trouble because she had an email account) as well as a number of third party candidates that don't get any air time or invited to cool conventions. If you're still at a loss, check out https://www.isidewith.com/elections/2016-presidential-quiz. This quiz has you answer questions on your positions on different issues and tells you the candidate that you align the most with, and yes, even those third party dudes. In all seriousness, being an informed voter is one of the most important things. Not voting for someone because of their gender, sexuality, name, religion, hairstyle, et cetera, are all unacceptable and, frankly, is an abuse of freedom that we are given to vote.

And there you have it, voting for dummies! This information and more can be found at https://www.usa.gov/voting, and you can register to vote at https://vote.usa.gov/ (just click on your state and it will direct you to the necessary documents).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
